An absolutely fascinating 37 minutes interview with Harrison Schmitt on our local TV station KOAT:
At a time when fascinating discoveries are being made on Mars, talking to someone who actually walked on the moon is a pretty extraordinary opportunity. The only living New Mexican to do that speaks exclusively to anchor Shelly Ribando. He says living here prepared him for his trip, and he believes there's life on Mars.

Yes, A very nice interview with Harrison Schmitt. He seems very personable. I wish he were more accessible. By that I mean, too bad he doesn't make appearances at Spacefest and the ASF events, etc.

Thanks very much for posting this clip.

I met Harrison at an MIT speech he gave. After the event, he signed my pilot log book and we had a conversation about the 1946 Globe Swift I owned at the time. You could tell he was sincerely interested.

A very unassuming gentleman.

That was very interesting. Dr Schmitt spoke well and looks much younger than his age. I would have liked him asked about his securing his place on Apollo 17 from Apollo 18 but otherwise quite a good interview.

He is still looking forward and a fine example to all of us getting older. Another astronaut I would love to meet so hopefully one day will. I know Ken Willoughby and Space Lectures made a valiant attempt to bring him over for a lecture a year or two back, so as he did in securing Jim Lovell after disappointment six years earlier, perhaps Dr. Schmitt might be tempted to come over here to speak to us after all. Certainly hope so.

Didn't Ed Mitchell grow up in NM?
Born September 17, 1930, in Hereford, Texas, but considers Artesia, New Mexico, his hometown.

Yes, Mitchell did grow up near Roswell. Between New Mexico and Texas, those couple of states can lay claim to "growing" a decent percentage of the moonwalkers as young men!

All times are CT (US)
