Hi ThereI have just read an article about Jeff Williams returning from his expedition flight and I have just thought of a weird question. Long duration spaceflight participants are alone for a long time with just one or two other people and I was just wondering what the effects are when they return. What I am really asking is, are they a little weird for a while? Gareth |

They may be physically isolated to just a few people, but long duration ISS expedition crew members are constantly in touch with the ground, and they are able to video conference, call and e-mail their families and friends as they desire. So, its not as though they are completely cut off from the rest of the world. And remember, they are doing something that most have dreamed doing for most of their lives and that all have trained for several years to accomplish. Its the fulfillment of a goal. The worst I have heard it described is that some are more homesick than others before they return. |

Also many of them are in the military. They are used to long deployments away from home. That's not to say they like it but thay understand that they have a job to do. Plus I here the view is tremendous.Tim [Edited by KSCartist (November 15, 2006).] | |
