I am looking for pictures of ESA astronaut Philippe Perrin and DLR cosmonaut Klaus-Dietrich Flade as Airbus or military Test Pilots. Does someone have any? Thanks. Karel

Jürgen, Airbus website or any press officer doesn't have any pictures of these two pilots. I checked already some time ago. Maybe some insider will have some. I keep searching and will let you know if I find something. Probably, there could be some pictures of them as military test pilots as both were test pilots for their respectively Air Forces. I remember I had some photo of Flade in cockpit (of Tornado ?) but can't find it now... K. [This message has been edited by karlitko (edited November 09, 2005).] |

Karel,The German Armed Forces distributed a color photo postcard at the time of Flade's flight that showed him "thumbs up" in his blue jumpsuit. I also remember German Air Force press photos showing him in his blue uniform. ------------------ Jürgen P Esders Berlin, Germany http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Astroaddies |

I know this is not what you are looking for but here is a picture of Klaus and I taken in my office at Iqaluit International Airport, Nunavut, Canada. He flew the Airbus A340-600 aircraft here for cold weather certification trials during February 2003. Thanks for the link. What a great photo. That was a busy month here in Iqaluit with two major cold weather testing trials taking place with the A340-600 and the NH-90 helicopter project. All going well the A-380 will be here for testing early next year. Regards, John Graham |

Airbus also distributed a picture of A340-600 in snowy mist with dog sled. I assume it is also from Iqaluit, Canada. If you do not have this picture contact me off-list, I can send it to you. Do you know if Jacques Rossay was in the crew with Klaus-Dieter Flade during the tests in Feb 2003? K. |

I don't believe that he was. It is interesting that all of the test engineers who made the maiden flight in April have operated out of Iqaluit with other aircraft over the past ten years. |

Yes, A380 pilots and engineers are very experienced. I was happy to met some of them and they are all very congenial. They were on trip in hot south-east Asia and Australia with A380 recently but surely they look forward to freezing Iqaluit By the way, I have found the Flade's picture as test pilot of German Air Force. Thanks for posting that great photo of Klaus. If you have a high resolution version please e-mail it to me at jgraham@gov.nu.caKlaus was a real gentleman and gave freely of his time to answer my many questions about his launch aboard Soyuz TM-14 to Mir. He signed a crew photo for me with himself and fellow cosmonauts Victorenko and Kaleri as well as a great shot of the Mir complex in orbit. Regards, John Graham |

John,I also wanted to send you some Flade scans, but the mail is bouncing as the volume exceeds the maximum size of your mailbox. Can you give us a mailbox address that can actually receive large files? Thanks. ------------------ Jürgen P Esders Berlin, Germany http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Astroaddies |

John, Just mailed you the three smaller scans. The two other ones - actually the better ones - are at 2.1 and 3.1 MB, so alas I cannot share them with you unless you get yourself a larger mailbox. 1 MB isn't really large for high res files. Hope this helps, ------------------ Jürgen P Esders Berlin, Germany http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Astroaddies |
