I have special question for experts on test pilots.
Ed Schneider's biography says that he performed five first flights during his pilot career.
As I specialize in "first flights" I would like to know the aircraft.
I assume one of them could be NASA's F-18 HARV but what are the other first flights?
Does anyone know?

Another "first flight" was the SR-71 with linear aerospike test engine mated to the fuselage or the SR. Can't think of any others off hand.

His bio from the Aerospace Walk of Honor in 2005 lists him as the first pilot in history to conduct multi-axis thrust-vectored flight via the F-18 High Angle-of-Attack Research Vehicle which would be your HARV.

He was a project pilot for the SR-71 High Speed Research Program, the F-18 Active Aerolastic Wing, F-18 systems research, B-52 launch aircraft and the NASA Lear Jet. He has logged 7,800 hours in 87 types of aircraft.

That doesn't really answer your question with certainty, but may give you some ideas of where to look.

Thanks Derek & Doug!
Derek, you are right about first SR-71 LASRE flight.

Doug, thanks for pointing me to his biography and aircraft assigment.
I am still searching for his other "first flights" and will keep you informed when something found.

finally, I have the answer:

Ed Schneider's first flights on five unique aircraft configurations are:

F-14 Laminar Flow Experiment -

#1 First flight with a laminar flow glove on a single wing.

#2 First flight with different laminar flow gloves on each wing. One wing glove was optimized for laminar flow 0.7 Mach, and one was optimized for laminar flow 0.9 Mach, thus the airfoil cross sections, and therefore, the lift characteristics of the wings were different.

F-18 HARV -

#3 First flight with the thrust vectoring system installed.

#4 First flight with both the thrust vectoring system and the nose strakes installed.

SR-71 LASRE-

#5 First flight with the LASRE experiment installed on SR-71A NASA 844
