Anybody ever heard of Serge Ilyushin? Found a reference to him in a publication from the mid-80's. Supposedly a contemporary of Yuri Gagarin. I have found no other reference to him anywhere. Not listed in biographies of Russian cosmonauts.

You may be having trouble finding reference to Ilyushin because he wasn't a cosmonaut. An urban legend suggests he flew to space prior to Gagarin, but that claim has been well debunked.
