Moonwalker Buzz Aldrin, of Apollo 11 and Gemini XII, is coming to Tucson in late March for a private signing with Astronaut Central. Deadline for receipt of orders and items is Monday, March 13.

We're also working on having Mike Collins shortly after that, and we'll post details as soon as we have them.

Will either Aldrin or Collins sign a space cover?

As stated in our online Aldrin 2017 rules and fee table, Aldrin will not sign any postal covers or philatelic items, and that includes space covers.

Collins has agreed to sign covers every year since 2012, and we expect that he will agree to sign them this year, too. We hope to have information about his signing very soon.

While I have a few covers in my collection, I don't actively seek them out and don't have a background in collecting philatelic items. Out of curiosity, why would Aldrin, or any other astronaut, for that matter, be opposed to signing covers? They seem like fairly benign items to sign, from my perspective.

I'm sure there must be some logical reason, but I'm wracking my brain and can't come up with one. In all curious sincerity, can someone please clue me in?

There is a 2004 thread about the reasoning: Why astronauts refuse to sign covers.

Did anyone receive a Buzz autograph from his signing? I'm curious how they're looking these days. Post a picture!

Haven't received a picture of mine yet. If it's anything like last year, his signature is not as crisp as it used to be. I would describe it as softer or slower, but that's to be expected. He signed my item last year very nicely.
