Looking forward to it. His is such a difficult autograph to get and I am really glad to have this opportunity. I am also surprised (and grateful) at the low price. My litho will be in the mail tomorrow.

Now try to get Lisa Nowak so I can finish off Class 16.

Although C.J. "Gus" Loria never flew in space, he was originally assigned as the PLT on the STS-113 mission. A back injury forced him to be replaced and after being medically disqualified for further spaceflight assignments, he retired from NASA in 2005.

Those of us who collect Space Shuttle astronaut autographs, know that Loria's autograph is among the scarest, as from early-on Loria was not a cooperative signer. I, for one, was never able to get his autograph while he was at JSC.

While those who only collect flown astronaut autographs will not likely be interested in this opportunity, those who collect autographs of all those selected as NASA Astronauts or Space Shuttle astronauts, should be interested in this rare opportunity.

A little more notice would have been much better, as overseas collectors will hardly be able to send in their items in time to have them signed.

What a shame. A missed occasion.

We still have a week to go to send in money via PayPal or send in your item.

The photos are on Endura paper done by Nations Photo Lab and they came out great. I know it is expensive but they are worth it plus all the money is going to the non-profit to help bring more astronauts up here.

Important Update! We have moved the signing up to Saturday at 5 p.m. so we need all orders in by then.

Thank you to the great supporters of One Giant Leap that have sent in items or placed orders. We are getting close to our goal for the event but we really need a push in the last few days to put us over the top.

Thank you all!

Thank you to all that helped us out. It was a great time talking and learning about Gus's flying career. He is a fun and personable gentleman. I met him about a year after the Columbia accident when we hosted him up for a tribute to the crew at a Bruins game and we finally connected again this year.

I still have some signed 8.5 x 11 NASA lithos that he brought and signed for us to continue to raise more money. So you still have a chance to pick one up. I know it is expensive but we need to cover the cost of the signing and make some money for a future astronaut visit or two. I have more visits in the works plus maybe another signing by a former astronaut. So it will help us if you can purchase one. I also remember people who help us so that if something comes up in the future, I might be able to help you.

Thank you Neal and Larry for helping out at the signing. It made it easier to go to the post office on Monday with all the items. It was time well spent I hope. The time and effort you put in was greatly appreciated. Thank you to the cS members who donated some 8x10 NASA lithos for the cause! You know who you are!!

One Giant Leap thanks you all.

And thank you for all that you do, Bryan! Astronaut appearances seem kind of scarce this year... looking forward to seeing who you'll have next.

I second that. Thanks Bryan for taking so much time and trouble to arrange astronaut appearances and now signings. It gives so many the opportunity to meet an astronaut and enjoy the shuttle and ISS era's. Please keep up the great work. You have our support!

Got back my photo today. Thanks again, Bryan! And for those who participated, what did you get signed by Loria?

If you could pick, which non-Apollo, USA-only astronaut would you like to see do a signing?

He doesn't exactly qualify under your guidelines, but I'm sure a lot of people would love to have a signing by the elusive Phil Chapman, who lives near San Francisco.

I just sent Bryan this email, but since he asked in a public forum, I'll share my thoughts, based on ties and/or closeness to Massachusetts and/or draw:

In addition to Nick Patrick, who has ties from the area and whom Bryan was thinking of, Dan Barry would be cool. He's in the area, although doesn't sign thru the mail - but one museum had him appear a few years ago, so he may be approachable.

Similarly, I'm thinking of the ones that went to MIT; they might come back to the area as a draw — including Neil Woodward, an unflown; Heide Stefanyshyn-Piper, who recently retired, and Dan Tani, who I believe is now with Orbital. These probably would appeal to collectors, especially if he lands an unflown like Woodward. Personally, I'd like to see Tony England, who was at one point going to attend the MIT+150 event, but I'm not sure if other than completists would go for it.

Ed Lu was born in Massachusetts, and is a name in the news, with the work on detecting near-Earth asteroids. Susan Helms grew up in the area; she would also be a great draw. Pierre Thuot grew up in the state, not sure how he would fare as a signee. Charles Hobaugh, who grew up in Maine, is also a maybe.

Outside of ties to the area, it may be neat to have husband and wife Tammy Jernigan and Jeff Wisoff. May be a draw to have a twofer. Expanding further, Bruce Melnick is Coast Guard and if you take him fishing, he may bite, no pun intended.

Hart's suggestion of Pierre Thuot is a good one. As a participant in the first 3-person spacewalk, and as someone who doesn't sign though the mail (at least I don't think he does), he'd be a nice choice.

Tammy Jernigan would also be a good choice.

And if you could get Shannon Lucid one of these days, you would make me happy.
