First the bad news — Jim Lovell had to cancel.Good news is he wants to do private signing later this summer, so stand by for that. Sorry, Dwight! |

It's disappointing about Mr. Lovell, but a private signing works for me. To be honest, I'm grateful for what I can get - and Spacefest makes most of it possible. Even if a private signing falls through, I'll get him next year at Spacefest! Thanks for an event like this where I can meet these guys at all. |

Any chance you could get both Lovell and Freddo to do a mail-in signing? It would help those of us who can't make Spacefest this year from having to mail items that need both signatures twice across the pond. |

We're excited to report our newest SPACEFEST speaker will be an old friend, the uber-talented Carter Emmart, "visualization director" of New York's American Museum of Natural History and Hayden Planetarium. He's got a flyover program that uses any altitude data along with surface pics for real-time, off-the-cuff flyovers of Earth, Moon and Mars. Data is streamed over the internet from JPL! See his Facebook page for examples. He can show low-angle flyovers of the Apollo sites to less than half-meter resolution. |

This is my first Spacefest, and I'm looking forward to a great event. Does anyone know if we will have confirmation of our lunch, dinner, and breakfast astronaut/guest selections prior to the event? |

Reminder that for folks interested in the autograph mail order service, my order form will be ready on April 28th.... please contact me then. I will start accepting items after then. Cutoff for any mail order items will be May 24th — so that gives everyone a three week window to send items. Feel free to email me with questions — stevegruber34@yahoo.com. |

Wow! What a tremendous lineup of speakers. It will be hard to pick which talks to attend. The Apollo panel is a must for me... just to hear Dick Gordon say: "I don't know what you are talking about". What a card he is.Kudos to Sally, Kim and company for putting together what will be another great show! |

Thanks! The Apollo panel was a big hit last year. I think the spacesuit panel will be the sleeper this year. |

Bill Ayrey from the forthcoming Spacefest Spacesuit panel is a good friend of mine. It will come as little surprise that as ILC Company Historian his knowledge of spacesuits is vast. What may be a little less well known is that he is a real great guy. |

Thanks very much for moving the KSR talk away from the one to be given by Leslie Young. I REALLY want to hear both of them, and I just could not come up with a way to choose. Probably would've had to flip a coin. Would be hard for me to miss the talk about New Horizons, but I would hate to miss Robinson talking about his Mars books, either. Thanks for making it easy for me to see both. |

Well, KSR's new book "2312" will be published that week. He'll be doing a reading from that. He'll be on the Mars Panel Sunday, too. |

Yep, looking forward to all of that. Hope to have a copy of 2312 in hand when I arrive in Tucson. That Mars panel ought to be good, too. It'll be the last thing I do before jumping in the rental car and trying to just barely catch my plane! |

New Horizons Pluto probe talk (10am Fri 6/1) now replaced by her colleague Dr. John Spencer. Original speaker Leslie Young was called away to OZ for a Pluto occultation. Spencer, a UofA grad, is designing the post-Pluto flyby of some Kuiper Belt planets. Brrrr! |

While the astronauts are the big draw to Spacefest, there are many other outstanding speakers who are true experts in their professions relating to space. This year's list of speakers is superior, ranging from scientists and project managers to writers and journalists. To give you an example of the caliber of their work, I'll mention Emily Lakdawalla, who is making her first Spacefest appearance. Besides being a planetary geologist, Emily is a blogger for the Planetary Society and an imaging expert. An example of what she can do is pictured here. It's not too soon to look at the Spacefest schedule to plan which of the many talks to attend, especially since there are multiples talks at the same time. A surfeit of riches! |

Thanks for the Emily Lakdawalla plug, David. I see Spacefest as becoming known as a great place to hear great speakers as astronauts fade away. We're fortunate to have top space scientists here in Tucson. It costs almost nothing to bring them in.Watching the Science Channel, you'll see many of our guests. |
