Mmmmm...To be positive: Vance Brand and Jerry Carr look like good deals! (Especially if you collect 'Cap Coms') |

I suppose these prices are for pre orders so there's always a chance the show prices may be a bit less. I was planning to get two Jim Lovell pictures signed but I'm starting to wonder about just getting one now. |

There were LOADS of those getting signed... I suspect there were many who didn't know the line from the movie was incorrect. |

Look on the bright side, there's ONE more letter in the correct quote, which would've cost you another fiver. |

Actually, I think most Astros have said it at one time or another! It's a reference to Glenn's 'Fire flies' I believe. If he ever visits the UK, we can ask him! (Now wouldn't THAT be a blast!) |

Gradually veering of the show topic I know, but I thought the Urion reference was due to the spray of urine coming from the spacecraft after a urine dump, rather than Glenn's fireflies.Adam |

True! But I believe the phenomenon of Glenn's fireflies was later explained after a urine dump by Wally Schirra produced the same effect. His 'Constellation Ur-ion' was picked up and used extensively by other Astros / crews. But I could be wrong. Good luck, Mr Gorsky! |

It was a different effect, I understand. Glenn (and Carpenter) fireflies were frost clinging to the spacecraft outer hull, not urine dumps (according to Schirra, the constellation pun was his, using a photo he took of the effect). Although both involve ice particles from the spacecraft, two completely different stories getting mixed up here.

I stand corrected! This discussion shows how desperate we all are over here for some new postings on this thread (particularly in regard to new astronaut guests!) |

Why has Jim Lovell's signing fee risen by around £20 since the last Autographica to what would approximate a fee in the US of $170-$180 but the ASF rate in November stays the same at $150? |

You could always ask him!I guess the fact is for him to come over to the UK is a bigger upheaval, if that's the right word, than it is for him to travel somewhere else in the same country. From that point of view I guess he has to make it worth his own while. |

Being a really sad person I've discovered a VERY tenuous Apollo 13 connection to one of the other Autographica guests.Any guesses who and why, anyone? Steve |

Would it be that Jack Swigert of Apollo 13 was the original choice as ASTP CMP, but was replaced by Vance Brand, who is appearing at Autographica 12? |

I know it, I know it!Did Jim Lovell once get smacked around the head with a frying pan during an argument with Marilyn, just like Andrew Sachs as Manuel got from John Cleese's Basil Fawlty ? ;-) Adam |

I think I may have it...Is it that actors Gary Lockwood and Keir Dullea plus Heather Downham and not forgetting the 2 apes appearing at Autographica, all starred in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, and on the Apollo 13 flight, Jim Lovell's tape played the theme music to the film? Pat |

What's going on here? Are we trying to 'big up' one of the minor guests by establishing a nebulous link with a genuine space mission? Oh dear! LOL! |

Indeed. According to Lost Moon, Cavett was going to interview Susannah York that night... She may be unaware that she is named in Lovell's book - certainly worth asking her... |

She made it into his autobiography, which in a small way makes her part of the story... it might actually be interesting to hear her recollections of that evening.

Given that A12 is a much more 'low key' event than the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation's Show, it's still interesting to note that no-one seems to be suggesting meet-ups over the weekend. We Astro-freaks are very much in the minority at these events in the UK, yet (unless I'm being 'included out!') there doesn't seem to be the camaraderie that seems evident over the pond. Can't we all get together for a drink and a chat Friday night (after the drinks reception!)? |
