The "illness thread" does not explain his last cancellation. He turned up at NASM on the day he was planned to be at Autographica and by all accounts he was largely ignored / over looked. Oh well, lets embrace those guests that keep to their word and make the effort. |

All I can say is that recently I have been getting my dinner table allocation with actors rather than astronauts for a variety of reasons namely:No overdose of competitive testosterone. I can eat my dinner and chat without having to prove my maleness! I don't have to jostle through 10 other people just to be able to ask the astronaut a question at my table! I learn someone new, and more often than not wind up having a contact number and email. Try getting that from an astronaut! I dont go home disappointed because I dont have my idealised hero shown to be a human who has absolutely nothing in common with me! I dont wind up bidding 60000 pounds on an item which I wouldn't bid on when sober, and which I could get for 1/4 of the price through an online shop because I don't have my sanity dazzled by one of my childhood heroes in front of me! Bring on the apes actors, I say, they'll no doubt have alot more to tell than their 5 month stint in 1968 on a film!!! See you all at the actors' tables!!! |

The last two shows Linda & I had dinner with a bevy of Bond Girls and the delightful Sally Thomsett. All of them were just wonderful table companions: warm, friendly and they even bought some meteorites / jewellery from us on Sunday! |

Just been re-reading Andrew Smith's excellent book 'Moondust' and noticed his dismissive comments about Autographica. Does anyone agree with him that Bond girls and Page 3 models don't belong with astronauts? Obviously the format has changed since Northampton (particularly at the Radisson, which has its own 'Space Room') but I'd be interested in people's opinions! |

For me I don't think Autographica has ever promoted itself as a pure astronaut event, although its probably the most astro heavy show in the UK. I think if the ASF show suddenly started throwing in Bond girls and what have you then it would seem out of place, after all they are pretty much certain to have a good astro line up so don't need anything else to pull the punters in. The thing is if you took all the Bond girls and other film people out of the equation at Autographica you'd be left with a fairly thin guest line up just by virtue of the fact that it seems harder to get a high volumne of astronauts to come to the UK than it would be for a show in the US. Ultimately that would probably mean the event wouldn't be financially viable. While a lot of the Bond girls dont necessairily attract the big crowds, they often seem to do a steady enough trade. Have to admit I've never really seen the point of the page 3 girls at the event, decorative as they may be they do seem a bit out of place. I don't have any moral objection to them being there, just don't really see the point! It does seem that this side of things is being phased out though. |

Paul 23 says it all. In the UK we will never have the pulling power to organise a pure Astro show so Autographica is it, and they do a bloody good job. It may take Autographica a number of shows to cover the same ground that one US show covers but over a few years we pretty much get the same bigtime guests but less regularly. It just means that we have to make every show count more. |

We have had one advantage over the U.S. Shows in that we have had the wonderful help of Rex Hall in bringing some brilliant cosmonaut guests to Autographica. I hope we never lose this contribution.Andy |

I could use some help at Autographica, and I'm sure others do, too. Perhaps those offering help would list who they would be willing to get. So, to start out, who can help me get Dave Scott? Mail me privately if you'll help. Of course, a "thank you" will be in order. JasonIUP |

Couple of responses: Paulushumungous is totally correct: Dave, Jason (and, until recently, Gary) have always done an incredible job. To bring legends like Carpenter, Lovell, Haise, Cernan and the rest to the UK (particularly as these wonderful people grow older) is an astonishing feat! Well done, guys, and many thanks! And what's wrong with a bit of politics? There is NO logical reason to deny visas to our Cosmonaut heroes. They'd've been OK if they'd entered the UK in the back of a sixteen-wheeler! Don't know about y'all, but I'm already getting excited about Auto11! Can't wait! |

Sure it's nice having dinner and being photographed with astronauts and cosmonauts (as I have). However, it's also pretty cool to have dinner, and be photographed with a Penthouse Pet and a former Playmate of the Year. How often does that sort of opportunity come along! |

David,Your comments about the 'sixteen wheel trailer' are perfect and hit the nail right on the head. This is the kind of mentality displayed by U.K. politicians and legislators. There are similarities of attitude to the disgusting decision to make older Gurkha soldiers apply for U.K. residence after a lifetime of service in the British Army. Andy |

Does anyone remember what Jim Lovell was charging for crew completions on his last visit?I seem to have a figure of £150 in my mind I'm getting a couple of items signed for some overseas Cs members and just need to let them know his fees were higher for a completion. Paul. |

Yep £150. If that was based on $300 at 2:1 you'd be looking at £83.Usually it's a bit like airline fuel surcharges: oil up/surcharge up; oil down/surcharge stays in place! In this case I can't see it rising above £150/$300 as business will be slow at that level. Paul |

I cannot make the show this year, but would love to have the 'Problem' inscription on the A13 photo with the service module damage. Any guesses how much this would set me back approx? I was also wondering if I could pre-order this via Showmasters.Pat |

Last year Lovell's signature and "Houston, We Have a Problem" (which is incorrect BTW, it should be "Houston, We've Had a Problem") along with Apollo 13 CDR was £95. |

This price list has just been posted on the Autographica forum (I've just added the space and related guests, though the have all the film and TV people listed as well):- Dave Scott £95
- Jim Lovell £90
- Vance Brand £40
- Jerry Carr £30
- Gary Lockwood £20
- Keir Dullea £20
- Double Signed 2001 Dullea Lockwood £40
- Patrick Moore £30
In Dave's own words "The astronauts are as near as i can figure the correct price." This are listed as pre order prices though so the show price might be different. |
