Steve, allow me a further word on a wish list of invitees to the '05 show. I hope that you and Nolan will not neglect the non-astronaut, but space-connected support people and celebrities who were at Burbank. Not in any particular order, some who come to mind are as follows: Kurt Newport is one. I never met anyone so willing to discuss with you his book and its topic, for as long as you want to talk with him, and still make it all interesting. Jim Lewis was a very nice addition to Burbank, obviously a gentleman you would like to get to know. Both ladies, Dee and Cece, were a hoot to talk with. Those ladies have the "right stuff." Sy Liebergot and Clint "Sy" Howard were gracious and informative to talk with. Gunther Wendt was a joy to visit with and is not shy about letting his opinions be known -- just the man for me. (The same re Sy.) Bill Dana -- excuse me, Jose Jiminez -- is a must, both for the show and for MC of the dinner. Also, if any, or even better, all, of the Hollywood celebs who were at Burbank can come to NY, that would be great. Hope I didn't leave anyone out. Richard |

Hi Steve: I know it's a long shot, but with John Young officially leaving NASA, any chance he would accept an invitation to the show in New Jersey? |

Well, who can really say for sure, but if he was considering such an appearance, would think our show would be the most logical choice of venue. Time will tell. In the meantime, I'd like to announce the addition of Skylab Astronaut Ed Gibson as our most recent celebrity guest confirmation. The list is growing with others to be listed in the days to come. ------------------ Steve Hankow http://www.farthestreaches.com |

We're pleased to announce our latest guests for August 2005. We have now received confimations from Wally Schirra, Jack Lousma, and Dee O'Hara. Stay tuned for more announcements in the next few days...I also wanted to point out that there is still a good supply of choice (toward the top of the list) banquet tickets still available at this early stage, so IF you know you're going to be attending, I would highly recommend reserving your spot at this time. Please note that should your plans change, ownership of tickets are fully transferable. ------------------ Steve Hankow http://www.farthestreaches.com

If anyone from the UK is going over for this show I'd sure appreciate them getting a few sigs for me on a couple of items, as I won't be able to afford to travel to this one (still paying for Burbank at moment, and planning to take family to Florida in May)) I promise I won't ask for too much stuff, just what I wanted to get at Burbank but ran out of money. Many thanks......Adam |

Hi Adam, If your travel plans to Florida aren't finalized yet you may want to consider arriving a bit earlier. The Astronaut Hall of Fame Induction weekend will be held the last two days of April. If you were to attend the Gala Dinner there you can possibly get many autographs and photos free of charge, although you do have to pay for the dinner which is held at the Apollo/Saturn V Center. Out of the last three I've attended I've received at least 30 autographs that way, including Glenn, Carpenter, Schirra, Lovell, Haise, Duke, Cernan and even all four of last year's inductees, Covey, Gregory, Sullivan, Thagard and also June Scobee. Just a thought! Rob |

Aww damn, Rob ! Whydya have to tell me that, lol. We booked the holiday this past May for next year in order to get the free child place, plus we didn't wanna take her out of school just for a holiday so we had to book it for the half term break. I'd love to have gone to the induction weekend, I'd love to just meet Glenn, Lovell and Haise, an autograph would be a bonus. Sadly with more family commitments, my outings are going to be less frequent (and less lavish !) Thanks for the suggestion though, I'm kinda hoping that STS-114 actually gets off right at the start of the present launch window as that will be at the end of my holiday and I am yet to see a launch. (I can almost hear you guys laughing at the thought of an on schedule launch from here ;-) ) Adam |

I am wondering if there would be any possibility of inviting actor Gene Hackman to this show ? Gene Hackman is now the sole surviving actor who portrayed an astronaut in the movie Marooned back in 1970. |

Indications are that he attended Autographica in UK in 2003. See the following link: http://www.collectspace.com/ubb/Forum23/HTML/000850.html |

It should be noted that Popovich's appearance is perhaps even more special. He is also the earliest living cosmonaut to have flown in space.FF |

Since we are going crazy here with our requests, I'm going to add my wish list as well.Don Knotts (The Reluctant Astronaut) Barbara Eden, Larry Hagman (Jeanie) OJ (Capricorn 1) or maybe not William Anders Chuck Yeager (yeah right) Neil Ar..... (no, he would get mobbed) Walter Cronkite (Still Alive?) The William Shatner (Steve, Please!!) Eileen Collins (Is she still active?) The guy who was in the movie Race to Space (James ?) If you guys(gals) haven't seen this movie, do so, it is alot of fun. Finally, The Pope (To heal us of our incurable "passion" of collecting.) Does he sign? (Please no nasty remarks, I'm a believer in Jesus so it is not meant to offend).

Walter Cronkite is very much alive. I saw him speak at Harry Truman Banquet in Kansas City last May. I believe he is 88. Still cuts a very good figure, good voice, articulate, and witty. Told some wonderful stories, such as how he had been in the same room we were in at the Muhlbach Hotel when Harry Truman gave his victory speech in 1948, showing the famous "Dewey Wins" headline.Slow walking though, but doesn't have a cane. He still signs periodically through his office at CBS News. I sent him by mail the program from the banquet and a picture of him and Wally Schirra at the Mercury 7 Statue in Cape Caneveral. Wally had signed it. After about a month or two later, they came back nicely signed. Man it would be awesome to have him there, especially with Wally Schirra. Steve Hankow, that would clinch my coming. |

Moonpaws, Eileen Collins is most certainly still active, she is commanding the next shuttle flight. She might be a tad busy to get along to the show.If you are a fan of William Shatner have you heard his cover version of Pulp's Common People - bizzare but stangely addictive you just can't turn the radio over. Cheers Dave

There are only THREE signatures of the pope known to exist outside the Vatican, 2 are on baseballs! NO astronaut/cosmonaut is that rare. Only the Queen of England, outside the royal palace, is that rare. My exact recollection of the pope's rarity eludes me, possibly attendeding a mass of his in 1987, a newpaper article stating such perhaps; I just remember that rarity statement. I'd want to contact that stewardess if I knew her... Wm Shatner is all about the benjamin, a Golden Globe probably hiked his price from 75 to 100+ Don Knotts is retired from appearances now... Barbra Eden is very nice but Larry Hagman hasn't acknowledged that show in years. OJ would do it if asked. I don't see WCronkite doing shows, but would be great.[This message has been edited by Wehaveliftoff (edited February 05, 2005).] |

I find that a little hard to believe about the Pope's signature being rare. When I was flying with Qantas our airline did a special charter flight to Australia for the Pope quite a few years ago (when he was in better health). I didn't operate as crew on that flight, but one of the female flight attendants who did was telling me that she took along a copy of the little book he wrote and was going to ask his equerry if the Pope might sign it for her. Meanwhile she left it on a crew seat by the front door, and later in the flight retrieved it to show another crew member. The other flight attendant opened it up and said "I thought you said he hadn't signed it?" He must have seen it sitting there when he'd gone for a walk and signed away. She showed me the book on another flight and it was beautifully signed, dated and had a small message, long forgotten.

I finally committed yesterday to attend the show this year. Two bits of advice I learned, tell your wife you are going before you tell all of your friends... Second, if you are planning on using frequent flyer miles, book ASAP. I found there was absolutely nothing left in coach using my miles. Yikes! I look forward to attending, and I can't wait to see everybody there. ------------------ Kind Regards Douglas Henry Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby! http://home.earthlink.net/~aztecdoug/ |
