From Lunar Legacies:
The uploading of the Lunar Legacies 33 auction to Invaluable and Auction Zip has been completed, and it is ready for viewing and pre-bidding for the live auction on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 9 a.m. Pacific Time.

All descriptions should be completed by the middle of next week, but the photos and bidding numbers are correct and you may pre-bid now if you so choose. Also, a few photos are left to be done (a very late consignor).

I won one item in this auction and the winning lot showed up in my account, but I didn’t receive an invoice. Has anyone else not received their invoice yet?

Mine arrived early Monday morning (my time). I've never had to wait this long for the invoice as you are.

I suggest reaching out to Don.

I have since looked at my bidding record and the item no longer appears in the "won" section, so I checked the sold price and it went to the person who bid below me. It would appear that my bid was removed post-auction, why, I don't know. I know from using the auction site that removing a winning bid is a manual action, and therefore deliberate.

I've reached out to Don to ask why this was done.

Not very pleased to have wasted my time on this.

I noticed that I was outbid on an item, which was later marked "unsold" because the winning bidder was not registered for the auction. I wonder if something similar happened here. Maybe your registration wasn't in the system.

Just a note when attending an auction on Invaluable you cannot bid unless you are registered. You must log in with a username and password to participate in any Invaluable (and I believe all online) auctions.

I also have been the highest bidder on an item only to see it sold for less than my bid.

Unfortunately I was not able to get the piece even after I had reached out.

I was registered for the auction, it is always the first thing I do.

The same happened to me a couple of years ago. I was the highest bidder, but for some reason I didn't receive an invoice.

I contacted them twice with no reply. I was a novice first time user and let it go at the time thinking I had done something wrong, but reading this suggests they have a glitch.

Not replying to your emails isn't a glitch, that is bad service. Bids can be retracted by the auctioneer, which seems to be the case here. I've not received a reply as yet either.

The same thing happened to me with this Lunar Legacies auction. Highest bidder, sold for less. Then only bidder, passed with no bids...

I'm really surprised to hear all of this. I recorded on cS just a few weeks ago my appreciation for a select few folks at auctions in the US and included Don in that very short list as someone who had gone way above and beyond in terms of customer service and helping me out.

I hope the reason for non-communication is simply a matter of workload, but I'm afraid I'm as baffled as others regarding the bidding problems. I'm sure, I hope, this frustrating situation will all be explained at some point.

I did not win any lots in the auction, but did any of you who have not received your invoice try emailing Donnis?

In my opinion, he has earned the benefit of the doubt in this community. I'm sure all will be made right, and I'm sure there is a simple and straightforward explanation for whatever concerns you have.

I won five items. I received my invoice on Sunday, paid it on Monday, and the items have been shipped. I advise patience. I have always found Donnis to be honest and honorable in my dealings with him.

As for the issue of high bids being ignored I believe that to be an issue with Invaluable. I have had the same thing happen with other other auctions and the common thread is Invaluable's platform.

Maybe it was an Invaluable glitch, maybe it was done manually, either way, I'm sure Don will let me know what happened and what he is going to do about it.

The first thing I did was email Don. I will always give the benefit of the doubt, but his not replying is only half of the problem here, as I and others have stated.

As soon as he replies, I will update everyone accordingly.

Speaking as someone who runs auctions on Invaluable. I have seen cases where I was selling an item, I give the "Going one, Going twice, Fair warning," then I hit sold and as the item closes out I have seen another bid come up on the screen for a split second.

I have reopened lots and not had that bid come back. This is the issue with internet bidding, it is not 100% live or instant. Many people think about that next bid until it is too late. I believe Donnis and I try and give a full 5 seconds after the "Fair Warning" for final bids to come in before hitting sold.

Internet auctions are not fool proof and not having your (high) bid accepted is most likely not Donnis's fault.

Remember the higher the sale price the more money the auction house makes.

I have had these same comments in the American Space Museum auctions where someone claims to have made a higher bid but it never appeared on the auction screen and there is no way to change the outcome of a sale after the auction is over.

The claim here was a bid changed after the auction completed. This is not something I even knew was possible but if a bid was altered after the auction was complete, there is an issue to be resolved.

Thanks for the information, Chuck, although that wasn't the case here. I bid with plenty of time left and the winning lot appeared in my account under the "won" section — for a time, at least.

I had a customer call me to give me a heads up on what was being said here.

Richard, I have received probably 250 emails since the auction and I just haven't seen one from you, or I would have answered immediately (well, when I got to it). Please try emailing me again, and without me re-reading all the posts, I didn't see a lot number for that item so please advise on that. I can look up the bid history.

I can tell everyone though, I don't manipulate bids except for bidding an item up that has a reserve where the consignor wanted to start it off low. And I certainly don't let something go for a lower price if there is a higher bid. — Don Willis

Chuck is correct in the fact that things can happen simultaneously. With my 725 lots this last auction, it did happen three or four times — that is, me closing the lot the exact same time another internet bid came in. Sometimes I get a message on my screen from Invaluable saying something like "Another bid was entered, do you want to accept?" I always accept. Other times I see again the Internet Bid red light come on exactly the same time I close the lot, but I don't get that message, so I reopen and the internet bid is then gone. It's probably a matter of a fraction of a second as to which one happens.

Also, once Invaluable receives a bid and it is entered into their system, there is no way I see to ever change that. I've never tried to, but even if I wanted, I don't think it could be done. Much easier to make any necessary tweaks to the auction in my auction software (such as a buyer accidentally bidding on a lot because their cat stepped on the keyboard, or a winning bidder using two different bidder numbers, etc.), but that doesn't change Invaluable's records a bit.

And I still enjoy the shuttle model that my cat bought for me. When she stepped on the keyboard.

I have transacted with Don for the best part of 20 years and the one thing you cannot accuse him of is "bad service."

Don contacted me and said he had received no initial email from myself, though it was definitely sent — the fault of technology, perhaps.

The solution Don offered was that if the person who bid below me doesn't pay, then it will go to me.
