Update: the collection previously displayed at the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, The collection in reference to was first acquired by the old Mercury 7 Foundation when the Apollo astronauts' had their induction in 1997. This long-time Apollo 11 memorabilia collection of man's first lunar landing was the only such "private" or non-astronaut acquisitions the foundation had approved for public display alongside astronaut-owned/donated space artifacts and memorabilia and was on display until the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame was relocated onto the KSC Visitor Complex grounds. |

Chuck, when will the preview for this auction be up? I like to have some time to budget for whatever "eye candy" you happen to have, then hopefully I can win a few. |

Just to be clear on Chuck's prior posting, The U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame did commission for public display a few non-astronaut space items to help accompany all of their astronaut-owned/donated artifacts and memorabilia. But the displayed Apollo 11 memorabilia collection in reference to here of man's first lunar landing is the only "large collection" accumulation of more than 250 pieces that the museum foundation approved and requested for their Apollo museum wing from a private non-astronaut individual. The massive collection had been housed by the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame from Oct. 1997 on the first day of the Apollo astronauts' induction until the closing of the hall of fame a few years ago. |

Congratulations, Chuck! You've steered pretty clear of space stuff but that '50s hard hat (Lot #138) looks a bit like a possible launch-site item |

David you have a good eye. That hard hat was purchased with a collection about 15 years ago but i was never able to find any sold link to the space program and It takes up to much space (pun intended) in my space storage area. |

Just a heads up. Our two day sale will be as follows: - Friday Aug. 23rd will be original/official NASA photographs from almost every Apollo era event. We have thousands of press release photographs as well as black numbered and red numbered photos from many, many missions. Many of these photographs benefit both the American Space Museum and The Apollo 1 Foundation Scholarship program, a win-win.
- Saturday, August 24th will be for memorabilia, signed photographs, lithographs, rare patches, manuals and much more.
In addition to the Apollo 11 collection that was on display at the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, we are lucky to have one of the nicest Apollo 11 crew signed WSS lithographs I have ever seen. This one is a collector's dream in pristine condition, unsubscribed with dark bold signatures. A rare find indeed. I will be posting pictures in the coming weeks. Keep some cash for this auction it by far the best we have ever had. |

For the Apollo 1 collector we have listed in our day one auction on the Aug. 23rd an Apollo 1 crew photograph released just one day before the fire that claimed the lives of all three astronauts. This image shows the crew in the command module simulator exactly as they would sit in the command module just 24 hours later. |

Yes, Chuck, if I recall there were a series of photos taken at KSC of the AS-204 crew while suiting up and sim-training on both days of Jan. 25-26, 1967. I've got a bunch of the original releases in my own photo-file collection. |

I am saving the best item for last: a real Apollo A7L lunar overshoe that is the very first flight item overshoe ever produced. This one was used in testing to certify the Apollo suits for flight just before Apollo 11.This has all the documentation as well as a full history from Bill Ayrey, formerly of ILC Dover. This is an awesome item and I am so proud to be able to offer this for sale. For this one you may need more then pennies.

I am very surprised at the lack of interest in our Day 1 auction of NASA official press release, B&W numbered and color red numbered photographs. With more then 2,000 photographs online there have hardly been any views to see what is listed. Are photos a thing of the past? |

I am interested in knowing what people think about item 354 and whether it was flown to the lunar surface or remained in lunar orbit aboard "Yankee Clipper." The certificate that the flag is mounted to states that "This flag was carried to the moon by the crew of Apollo 12" with the landing date (November 19, 1969) and landing area (Ocean of Storms) also noted. I know there have been discussions about the somewhat vague wording of some of these certificates that could give a collector the idea that the flag was flown to the lunar surface. Does the addition of the landing date and area mean that this flag was flown to the lunar surface? Should a collector bid on this item as if it was flown to the lunar surface or assume, without additional provenance, that it remained in lunar orbit? |

Thought some people may not remember Ken's Apollo 11 collection from the U.S. Astronaut hall of Fame. This is a high resolution picture so you can zoom in and see all of the great items in our auction. I have included close up photos with most of the AHoF items in the listings but this is a great overall view. I would also like to give a VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to Ken Havekotte for your personal support and mentoring in my desire to run these auctions and the unwavering support of the American Space Museum. You are a godsend to our organization and a great friend to me. |

Thank YOU so much, Chuck, for all of your continued auction work with The American Space Museum and leadership during the past few years! You are a godsend, my friend, in helping keep the foundation in Titusville afloat, and a personal friend to me as well.Let me mention that the above terrific photo of the Apollo 11 / U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame memorabilia collection of man's first lunar landing was the work of space photography expert J. L. Pickering, recent author of "Picturing Apollo 11" with rarely seen photos and more. Long-time space broadcaster John Bisney was a co-author with J.L. for the new hard-bound photo-essay book study. Thank you J.L.! |

The auction was a huge successes. In the fact that they always run long we are considering a limit of items to make the auction more tolerable to watch in a single sitting. Thank you to everyone who attended. We appreciate your support. |

Congratulations on the auction Chuck. I was able to follow it easily from the UK. I was particularly interested to see what the A7L EVA boot sold for. Assuming the pre-auction estimate was indicative of the current owner's reserve ($100K to $150K) I think they need to lower their expectations. Yes the boot is a superb piece that has some historical significance but ahead of the auction I thought to myself $30K plus, maybe $40K at a stretch. Bidding reached a strong $47K but the piece still went unsold. I might add, I was not bidding. |

Hurricane update: It would appear we may have a major hurricane hitting us late this weekend. As there are only four days till the storm is supposed to hit us we will be holding off on the packing, shipping and invoicing on auction items to prep the museum and our storage building for the storm. Keep you fingers crossed the media is wrong as another major storm is the last thing we need. More updates on Monday. |
