I am pleased to announce the American Space Museum and Space Walk of Fame will be offering the collection of Charles "Charlie" Mars in our October 2018 charity auction.

Charlie is not only one of our founders, but also had a long career at Kennedy Space Center.

He joined NASA in 1963 and his hardware experience covers Mercury, Gemini, Apollo (in the command and service modules as well as the lunar module), Skylab, the Vandenberg AFB activation for space shuttle polar launches as well as the Space Station Freedom programs.

Charlie has held the positions of lead power and Sequential Engineer, Power and Sequential Systems Supervisor, Chief of Lunar Module, Skylab and Shuttle Program offices at KSC, Activation Chief for the Vandenberg launch facility (representing both KSC and the Shuttle Level Two Program Office), Manager of Operations and Logistics for the Space Station Freedom Program office in Reston, Virginia, Director of Mission Assurance at KSC, and Deputy Director of Safety and Mission Assurance during the Shuttle program.

Wow, what a career and he has some awesome mementos from his days at NASA.

Our new auction is now online.

We have some great items including the very rare one-of-a-kind attitude hand controller used in the Gemini "B" trainer for the Manned Orbiting Laboratory. Many other great items and more to come in the next week.

From the collection of the Chief of Lunar Module Program Office, Charles B. Mars, is this great contractor model that sat on his desk through much of the Apollo program. It is hard to find a LEM model with more history then this one.

Another great item in this auction is NASA Test Director Norm Carlson's retirement award.

Norm Carlson served as the launch vehicle test conductor for Apollo 11 as well as the test director for STS-1, but he may be best known for starting the tradition of providing beans and cornbread to celebrate a successful liftoff: "BEANS ARE GO."

This un-flown Space (AFRSI) Advanced Flexible Reusable Surface Insulation Blanket part of the shuttle's thermal protection system is signed by more then two dozen NASA notables and astronauts.

I'll be there, and good to see more bidders on the floor now as each new auction
gets underway. Lots of fun for us space collectors and enthusiasts — and for a good cause supporting the American Space Museum in Titusville, FL.

I am thankful for the opportunity to add something of Norm Carlson's to my collection and at the same time help support the American Space Museum.

Just won the Gemini MOL hand controller... Woot! If anyone has more info on it, or interesting pointers to the MOL program, I would love to see them.

The idea of a semi-militarized orbital station is an interesting compliment to the spare Almaz periscope I have at work. It blows my mind how the Soviets did film recovery from space and that they test fired a machine gun in space!

Steve, congratulations!! I am a few shades of jealous. That controller should be identical to the one used in the Gemini program. In fact that specific controller was probably used in a Gemini trainer before its use in the Gemini-B trainer. I note that part numbers stamped on some of the parts are actual flight part numbers. So even though this is from a trainer at least some parts are close to flight parts.

I have been making my own working model of the Gemini attitude controller. It's a back burner project, so it is taking a long time. It should pretty closely match the feel of the original. At least that's the plan.

I do feel bad that I hit the pass button on the Mercury coin lot by mistake. If the person who was bidding on that lot contacts me we can still complete that lot. It was my mistake.

All times are CT (US)
