Lots for the November 11, 2016 Signature Space Exploration auction at Heritage are now available for preview online. One lot in particular caught my eye, someone is selling an Apollo 12 heatshield plug lucite, accompanied by a letter from Commander Conrad. Nice to see another plug from this mission come to market. |

The flown Omega Flightmaster is a stunning piece. The description notes is was purchased from an early Sotheby's space auction Lot 77. Is anyone familiar with when the auction was and what the watch sold for? |

That watch was sold in the Sotheby's Russian Space Auction on Dec. 11, 1993. The watch was just one of several flown watches sold at that auction. There were ten watches and stopwatches on one page alone. And even in 1993, the estimate sales range for that Flightmaster was $10K to $12K. |

As with the last Heritage Auction, I like the fact they've included many nice autographed items in the catalog with a starting bid of $1. That's in sharp contrast with other auctions that have minimum bids closer to $200. Those of us who can't afford the premium items can at least take a shot at some of the autographed photos. I hope this trend continues with Heritage... and maybe starts to catch on elsewhere too.(Disclaimer: None of the auction lots are mine, so I don't have a personal stake in the outcome.) |

Regarding lot 50096, the large Apollo 12 heat shield. These large heat shield pieces are quite rare but this Apollo 12 example is at a very healthy price already, $4,250. Is this because as stated it is rare or because of its size... or both? |

Provenance and size doesn't hurt, but also seems of late that the trend generally has been for these original generation heatshield Lucites to appreciate... not a bad thing as it will hopefully discourage new owners from breaking them open. There is another data point to keep an eye on to see how durable the trend is - a nice AS-201 puck on eBay. |

An Apollo 12 heatshield plug lucite is hard to find. I believe this is only the second or third one I have seen since I started collecting heatshield lucites over 10 years ago. Having been owned by Charles Conrad makes it even more collectible. |

Any chance the winner of 50158 (the Weitz STS-6 wooden plaque from Crew Quarters) is online here? Have a question for you regarding the provenance letter you received. Thanks! |
