Lunar Legacies has announced its next auction will be held Dec. 13, 2014. Sale lots (for preview purposes only) are now beginning to appear on their website.
This auction will feature a wide variety of items, as usual, from all programs including more great items from Michael Leinbach, the last Shuttle Launch Director.
Donnis Willis is inviting anyone who would like to consign to this auction to please contact him before the end of November.

Donnis, I was looking at the link posted on cS and under the auction section there is a mixture of items that say August auction while others say December auction. Some are side by side so I am not sure what is what. Can you explain? Thanks.

Yes, when I began listing the items on my site for this December preview, I used an item from the August auction as a template, and forgot to change the August to December in the writeup. Each subsequent lot uses the previous lot's template, so the August error spread like a virus until I noticed it. All should be correct though now.

The uploading of the Lunar Legacies auction to Live Auctioneers has been completed, and it is ready for viewing and pre-bidding.

There are some descriptions left for me to write and all will be completed by Wednesday or Thursday, but the bidding numbers are correct and you may pre-bid now if you so choose.

I do accept mail-in bids if you cannot be there live for the auction, so please email me with your list, and we will be glad to bid for you. Please also understand that all mail bids must be confirmed received by me.

Highlights in this auction include:

  • More items from the Michael Leinbach collection (Shuttle Launch Director) including a SSME turbine blade in lucite flown on the first three shuttle missions.

  • A complete set of Apollo 17 Lunar Module training manuals as well as star charts.

  • A Lunar Module Cross Pointer instrument used in the training of all the moonwalkers.
And much, much more.

I will be sending out updates as the auction nears, but please email me with any questions you may have. Thanks!

As to Live Auctioneers I have a question..

On an item it shows an opening bid. It shows my bid which is higher than the opening bid. It shows other bids have been placed. BUT, I have no idea if I am the high bidder prior to the live part of the auction. Most auction houses tell you if you are the high bidder when placing a bid prior to the live auction (i.e. Superior). Am I missing something on the site or am I simply taking a shot in the dark as to where I currently stand. Can Donnis or someone else provide an answer?

Live Auctioneers doesn't allow me to see the high bids or even who has bid on what, until all is done. I have no clue what each lot will open at. All of which is obviously a protection against unscrupulous auctioneers. Other auctions houses use their own software and make it so they can see all that information — I could when I was at Regency.

The best I can tell you is to email me your highest bid amount, and I will bid for you when the lot comes up, or put in your highest bid online, or best yet, follow the auction live on Saturday. Hope this helps.

Some additional auction information and quick notes on the bidding process Saturday morning, to eliminate any bidder surprises.

The auction will start, in real-time, at promptly 9:00 AM Pacific time on this Saturday morning, December 13, 2014 at Live Auctioneers.

Very important — well beforehand, please go to liveauctioneers.com and select any currently running auction to test your connection — you may have to do an update to get in (I had to). There should be 10-15 auctions running at any particular time, and try to get to the point where you see the live auction unfolding.

All mail bids must be in to me by Friday midnight for inclusion into my bid list. Please email them to me at lunarlegacies@gmail.com.

There are NO reserves in the auction. That means if there is a bid on an item, it will be sold.

Internet bids will come up on your screens as "Live Auctioneer Bid" or something similar. All mail-in bids, phone bids and floor bids entered by us manually will come up as "Competing Bids".

I have no access to anyone's low bid or high bid amounts, so I cannot provide anyone with advance information on what a particular lot will start at, or what you will need to bid to win it. We will all see that together once the lot comes up live.

Once a lot is sold, I cannot go back to it to reopen the bidding, as I am told by Live Auctioneers. However, if a lot does NOT sell, I can go back to it if you write me a live message on the screen, and if its not too far in the past.

Mail bids will take priority over live internet bids, since they were entered usually days before.

I got the Space Shuttle Remove Before Flight Bracket (Lot 257) in the last auction but Donnis said, in the description, that there wasn’t enough information to know where or when it was used. Does someone know anything about it? Any information would be helpful.

All times are CT (US)
