I am wondering if anyone can help me. The YB-58 Hustler bomber was assigned as the chase plane for the XB-70 program. I know serial number 58 55662 was assigned to the program but does anyone know if any other B-58 aircraft was also used as chase aircraft?

I have only seen 662 (technically a TB-58A at the time) referenced as a chase plane. The excellent Jenkins/Landis book always refers to "the" TB-58A, inferring a single airframe was used.

662 also had the J93 engine test pod fitted.

661 was used for ejection capsule testing but I found no reference to its use as a chase plane.

All times are CT (US)
