I've looked at numerous photos of Atlas rockets in all of my books & journals as well as at museums etc. My question is, are there any photos of one without it's booster engines, i.e. just the sustainer engine and withouth the booster's aft "boattail"? Thanks for your help.Harvey Brown |

There are some Cape hanger and GD/A factory pictures without the boatail. The most accessible one would be the image of 71D taken from the RV showing the Atlas sideways with the sustainer visible.Art [Edited by art540 (January 15, 2007).] |

How do I find that particular picture you refer to Art? By the way, are you the co-author a new book on the market called "Go For Launch"? It's easily in my top 5 favorite space reference books. Thanks for your help.Harvey Brown [Edited by hlbjr (January 15, 2007).] |

Art, I can honestly say "Go For Launch" is a book I have been waiting for for a long, long time. It is, bar none, the most comprehensive historical coverage of the Cape, it's launch facilities, history, spacecraft, and rockets ever produced. I was just telling my secretaries a few days ago how I read and refer to the book daily, literally. I also enjoy my Spacecraft Films DVD "Liftoff" for the same reasons. These 2 items are a treasure trove of condensed information on the Cape and include a level of detail heretofore unseen in any book or media. Thanks for being part of the production of such a great book.Harvey Brown |

Harvey: an important element of GO FOR LAUNCH was to show previously unseen images and to give an overview of the Cape (notice KSC was not part of the book) for the years and variety of flights. We had to leave out lots of quality images because of the book size. This subject deserves multiple volumes of text and images. If you have any questions that we might be able to answer please free to post here or at my e-mail address.Art |

Our upcoming Cape DVD set will contain a large number of early photos, and while it will cover both the Cape and the Merritt Island launch areas there will be a large fraction devoted to the Cape/Air Force part of the story.Mark |

Mark, I've already got your "cape" DVD eyeballed for purchase as soon as you put it up for sale. Is it possible to wear out a DVD? If so, you'll be getting a replacement order for another copy of Liftoff from me.Harvey Brown |

Mark- Put me down down as a future Cape DVD customer. The LIFTOFF DVD was superb - only wish there were more failure images but you got the real spectacular ones. |
