Is it Vanguard 1? Any value in a space shuttle retrieving the oldest satellite still in orbit? |

Have a look at a Satellite Situation Report for status of satellites,probes,etc.Should answer this question and several similar ones you posted in cS elsewhere. |

I think you are right about it being Vanguard. It was launched in 1958 and is still in orbit. From what I read it is supposed to continue orbiting for another 200 years. Here was its location recently:
