This thread is intended for comments and questions about the Soyuz MS-19 mission to the International Space Station.

For discussion of the movie "Challenge" being filmed by members of the MS-19 crew, see Russia: Actress to film 'Challenge' on ISS.

An updated version of my blog on this mission, based on last week's media release from the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (GCTC), and comments on social media by Alyona Mordovina.

There are rumours coming out of GCTC that Mordovina may replace Peresild, in the coming weeks, based on training performances.

Mordovina's own comments on Instagram and Facebook definitely convey the impression that she is preparing to fly, and not to watch from the sidelines!

Latest update to my blog about this flight, which now only 30 days from launch.

There is also a link to the first episode of the Reality TV show about how the two actress-cosmonauts were selected.

According to the schedule released by the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre, on 8th and 9th September, the two crews will participate in the critical final examinations. This involves each crew performing a simulated Soyuz launch, docking, and landing, while dealing with various off-nominal situations created by their instructors and examiners. They then perform a similar exercise in the ISS Russian Segment, carrying out routine duties and actions, interspersed with further problems and challenges to resolve. The nature of the emergencies is determined by the crew selecting one of several sealed envelopes which each contain a different combination of challenges. As each crew includes a female cosmonaut, it is the usual protocol that the Commander allows them to choose the envelope!

After this, there will be a period of rest and relaxation, before the Interdepartmental Commission meets on 16th September to announce which crew will fly, and to authorise the start of the pre-launch phase, and departure to Baikonur, which is planned for 18th.

As noted by Tony in his blog, the "Interdepartmental Commission meets on 16th September to announce which crew will fly."

In the photos above, the prime crew as announced in May (with Yulia Peresild) is at top and is wearing the prime crew mission patch. The backup crew (with Alena Mordovina) is at bottom, wearing the backup crew patch.

Thanks Robert. Yes, it doesn’t matter what patch they’re wearing until we hear the official announcement in a few weeks...

The Interdepartmental Commission met on Thursday (Sept. 16) and confirmed Anton Shkaplerov, Klim Shipenko and Yulia Peresild as the prime crew of Soyuz MS-19.

Oleg Artemyev, Aleksey Dudin and Alena Mordovina will serve as the backups.

The launch of Soyuz MS-19 is scheduled for Oct. 5.

The Soyuz MS-19 zero-g indicators: at left, a toy cheetah chosen by Anton Shkaplerov's daughter and at right, a baby bird representing the charity fund supported by Yulia Peresild.

What exactly is the decoration for the movie?

The change is subtle. It is unclear why the bar chart-like design was applied, but it was unique to this vehicle and attributed to the film project.

Thanks. I had noticed the "bar chart" and thought "I don't recall seeing that before," but I was looking for something more overtly connected to the film.

I did see the film's logo at the top of the third stage and logos of Channel 1, Glavkosmos, START, Tinkoff bank and MegaFon on the boosters and around the bottom of the third stage, so I wasn't sure if that constituted the decoration or not.
