From European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Alexander Gerst on Twitter:
This piece of concrete witnessed the launch of Yuri Gagarin on 12 April 1961, as part of his legendary launch pad. It reminds me of the fact that after 1,000,000 years of looking up into the night sky, our species can now fly to space — since less than 60 years.

I picked up the rock a few days before our Soyuz MS-09 launch from that very same launch pad. I brought it to space with me (and back) in honor of one of the greatest achievements of humankind.
