The first Soyuz MS, launching in March 2016 with Alexey Ovchinin, Oleg Skripochka and Jeff Williams, is Soyuz MS-01. Soyuz MS-02 will then follow in September 2016, after Soyuz TMA-20M in May 2016, the last of the TMA-M spacecraft to fly. For those not familiar, the new MS version of the Soyuz includes more power efficient solar panels, a new approach and docking system and an improved communications system that enables satellite relay, such that the Soyuz is no longer limited to line of sight of comm passes. |

The Russians only sometimes number the first vehicle in a series. Looking at the Novosti Kosmonavtiki forums, I am seeing the first flight with the Ovchinin crew referred to just as "Soyuz-MS." |

The first flight of the Soyuz MS has been delayed, TASS reports. The previous Soyuz MS-01 crew (Ovchinin, Skripochka and Williams) will now launch on Soyuz TMA-20M in March 2016. Soyuz MS-01 will now launch in June 2016 with the prior TMA-20M crew (Ivanishin, Onishi, Rubins). |

The Soyuz TMA-M crew patch also said "Soyuz TMA-01M." |
