Progress M-23M launches to space station

Russia's Progress M-23M resupply craft launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan Wednesday (April 9) at 10:26 a.m. CDT (1526 GMT, 9:26 p.m. Baikonur time) on a four-orbit, six-hour flight to the International Space Station.

The Progress is the 55th Russian unmanned craft to bring supplies to the ISS.

The cargo craft is scheduled to dock with the station's Pirs module at 4:20 p.m. CDT (2120 GMT). It is loaded with 1,700 pounds (770 kg) of propellant, 48 pounds (22 kg) of oxygen, 926 pounds (420 kg) of water and 3,100 pounds (1,406 kg) of experiment hardware, spare parts and other supplies for the orbiting complex.

Progress M-23M docks to space station

Just six hours after launching, Russia's Progress M-23M cargo craft arrived at the International Space Station to deliver almost three tons of food, fuel and supplies for the six-man Expedition 39 crew.

The Progress linked up to the Pirs docking compartment, where it will remain until July 22, when it will undock and be deorbited to burn up in the Earth's atmosphere.

Progress M-23M departs space station

A Russian space freighter departed the International Space Station on Monday (July 21).

The Progress M-23M cargo craft undocked from the Pirs docking compartment at 4:44 p.m. CDT (2144 GMT) after spending more than three months at the orbiting complex. The unmanned spacecraft delivered nearly three tons of food, fuel and supplies when it arrived at the orbiting complex on April 9.

After undocking, the Progress moved to a safe distance away from the station for 10 days of engineering tests before it is deorbited on July 31. Now filled with trash and station discards, Progress M-23M will burn up as it re-enters the Earth's atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean.
