Is ISS Expedition 57 considered to have had a crew of three with a 17-day hand off period with the Expedition 58 crew, or was the incoming crew considered members of ISS Expedition 57 as well?

The ISS Expedition 57 patch only has three names but several online reference sites list Oleg Kononenko, David Saint-Jacques, and Anne McClain as members of ISS Expedition 57/58/59.

There was a version of the Expedition 57 patch with six names, including Oleg Kononenko, Anne McClain and David Saint-Jacques. The version only existed officially as a digital graphic (in so much as used by NASA and Roscosmos), but an unofficial embroidered version was produced by NASA's supplier, AB Emblem.

According to Energia and Wikipedia tables, both belonged to Expedition 57, e.g.:
ISS Expedition ISS-57, EVA-1
S. Prokopiev, O. Kononenko;

Opening up MLI and MMOD shields in the vicinity of the hole on the outer surface of of the Orbital Module of Soyuz MS-09.

Wikipedia and spacefacts.de both list Expedition 62 and Expedition 63 as six person expeditions but based on what I have read here that is not accurate. That they will be three person expeditions with handoffs similar to what Mir had. Plus the Expedition 62 patch seems to agree with that.

That is why I was confused. I thought Expedition 57 might be similar. But it sounds like Expedition 57 had six members. Right?

Maybe not; NASA's official biography for Anne McClain only lists her as a "Flight Engineer on the International Space Station for Expedition 58 and 59." Similarly, the Canadian Space Agency's biography for David Saint-Jacques lists his mission as "Expedition 58/59."

Ok, good info. Thank you Robert.

I'm trying to decided how to best do this in the trading card project. It almost seems like I should list the Expedition 57 mission as a three person mission with a long handover.

What do you think? I'd like it to be as officially accurate as possible.

Because of the different informations from USA, Canada, Germany, Russia it is ok: "...Expedition 57 mission as a three person mission with a long handover..."

I seem to remember discussing here somewhere (but I can't find it) that ISS Expedition 63 was planned on having only three crewmembers (Cassidy, Vagner, and Ivanishin).

We also discussed the upcoming SpaceX Crew Demo 2 mission as being a short visiting flight during which the crew would not be members of the ISS Expedition.

It sounds like on Friday, April 17, it was announced that the Crew Demo 2 mission would be extended a few months and potentially not return until August.

I assume that this means that Hurley and Behnken will be considered official members of ISS Expedition 63. Is that accurate?

NASA, in its release on Friday, stated:
After successfully docking, Behnken and Hurley will be welcomed aboard station and will become members of the Expedition 63 crew.
But it is not clear if this is accurate or a misstatement by public affairs. Previously, NASA officials said that because this a test flight and not an operational mission, the Demo-2 crew would not be considered expedition members, regardless of how long they stayed aboard the space station.

Perhaps NASA's position has changed and this will be clarified as the launch draws nearer.

Today I asked Rob Navias. His answer was:
All CCP crewmembers flying to the ISS will become Expedition crewmembers upon their arrival, including Behnken and Hurley, who will be FE-10 and FE-11 respectively on Expedition 63.

USCV-1 is now called Crew-1. They will be Expedition crewmembers for whatever Expedition they join. Crew-1 will not launch until at least a month after DM-2 lands.

When ISS Expedition 63 is offically over, which crewmembers will be officially considered part of the crew. Obviously, the crew of Soyuz MS-16 (Ivanishin, Wagner, and Cassidy) who are currently on the station and Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken who were there for about 2 months are all ISS-63 crew members.

It's the upcoming crew of Soyuz MS-17 that I am unsure about. They are scheduled to launch on October 14 and dock with the station shortly thereafter. Soyuz MS-16 is then scheduled to depart on October 22. Will this week long period of the crews together make the MS-17 crew officially part of ISS-63 or will this simply be a handover period like has been seen previously on the ISS and with Mir in the past?

A few unofficial online resources (Wikipedia, spacefacts.de) list MS-17 as part of ISS-63. But I can't find anything "official" and I suspect that they won't be. Does anyone know for sure?

Here is the official NASA release about it:
NASA has assigned astronaut Kate Rubins to a six-month mission to the International Space Station as a flight engineer and member of the Expedition 63/64 crew.
