Ruling out political and financial issues, what is most likely to cause the end of crewed operations aboard the International Space Station and its intentional re-entry? Structural failure of one of the modules? A coolant leak that cannot be repaired? Impact damage? Degradation of the solar arrays?

Does any cSer know of any studies or reports addressing this issue?

Probably degradation of the material of all modules in the complete structure. Other space stations:
  • Salyut 1 - 175 days
  • Salyut 3 - 213 days
  • Salyut 4 - 770 days
  • Skylab - 2249 days
  • Salyut 5 - 412 days
  • Salyut 6 - 1764 days
  • Salyut 7 - 3216 days
  • Mir - 15 years, 1 month
  • ISS - 18 years, 6 months... and counting

All times are CT (US)
