If you haven't seen the 8-second clip from which the above still was captured, you owe it to yourself to click here for a 4.5 mb mpeg. There were three cameras on each SRB and this is only a brief segment of just one such video; more to come soon, promises NASA... It is tryly breathtaking view. Infact, I must commend NASA for the wonderful TV views they provide of all aspects of the Shuttle programme. The human interest angle is very important in light of the most recent Shuttle disaster. Imho, it can actually garner support for human spaceflight. I recall the recent Shenzhou mission by China had some equally stunning live TV views of the Long March stages separating and images of the crewmembers. Why don't the Russians provide similar external camera pictures of Soyuz launches - which would complement the superb interior views of the crew ? After all image means everything these days. |

issman1, Though the human interest angle is very important, that is not why NASA has so many cameras mounted in so many places. It is so they can monitor every single surface of the orbitor to make sure that everything works properly, and with as little to no damage as possible. Releasing the videos to the public and media is just a bonus.

On 114 the SRB Sep video showed the orbiter going out of frame far too quickly, but this one more than makes up for it ! Amazing footage, I hope NASA make more vids available as mpegs so we can download them, rather than the streaming stuff. Adam |

Thanks, Robert! I missed the press briefing last night on NASA TV and could not find this video earlier today. Should have known to go to you for the latest. |

NASA has posted the right forward SRB video from launch to splashdown in wmv format. Fantastic views of the pad, plume, orbiter separation! [This message has been edited by Robert Pearlman (edited July 09, 2006).] |

Fantastic footage!Next time, forget about flying any payloads. Just load the Shuttle up with cameras and give us tons of these great films! |

These videos are really amazing. I'm curious: Were they retrieved from the SRBs or were they downlinked? |

Absolutely amazing stuff! I sat there in awe while watching the video. No doubt NASA will continue to provide camera angles like these on future missions. |
