A 2-men ISS expedition crew has 2 roles; ISS commander and ISS flight-engineer. How is decided this will be a Russian or an American? ( e.g. Foala was US, Padalka was Russian). |

When the expedition crews were 3 member crews, the flights where there was 2 russians and 1 american, the american was the expedition commander and the crew where was 2 americans and 1 russian, the russian was the expedition commander. Of course, after expedition 6 returned, expedition crews were reduced to 2 crewmembers to save consumables after the grounding of the space shuttle after the Columbia accident. They may have kept the rotation as if 3 man crews were flown. ------------------ John Macco Shady Side, MD [This message has been edited by Apollo-Soyuz (edited October 16, 2004).] |

Actually the answer is simple. They just rotate each mission. Exp 1 was American, Exp 2 Russian, 3 American...9 Russian, 10 American. |

Not always, John. EXP-5 had 2 Russians, 1 American with Russian CDR. EXP-6 had 2 Americans, 1 Russian with American CDR. Tom |
