Fifty two years ago today (Dec. 21), Apollo 8 was launched for what I think is the most incredible mission of all the Apollo missions. It also happens to be my favorite time of year. At 15 years of age, this mission made an incredible impression on me, and is the bulk of my collecting today.
It so happens tonight, the winter solstice, that Jupiter and Saturn align to create what is being called by some the Christmas star. The star of Bethlehem was believed to have been the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter.
Shown, a Christmas card from the 1969 season that was sent to my family.
