I was very fortunate to run into Scott Phillips yesterday at the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. He allowed my friends and I to admire his Apollo 11 50th anniversary guitar, which has multiple fantastic back stories associated with it.

Scott played and sang some Neil Young and Led Zeppelin tunes for us. Scott is an amazing Renaissance Man!

Some of the wood (sycamore) used to make the guitar was harvested from a tree that was blown down at the Cape during the hurricane 2 years ago. The sycamore tree grew from a seed that Stu Roosa took to the moon on Apollo 14. The tree was planted in 1976, for the US bicentennial.

Nice!

I know Scott can build space shuttles but did he build the guitar?

Good news for the Southeast Spacegeek band members, we already have patches made!

The guitar was designed and laid out by Scott and then constructed by C. F. Martin. The mother-of-pearl work is awesome. Hopefully Scott will add some more back story to this chain.
