While watching the CBS pre-game show on opening night of the newly formed football league, Alliance of American Football (AAF), spotted Walt Cunningham. He is wearing a jacket of the Orlando Apollos (aptly named).

As the home team Orlando ran onto the field, the announcer said, "We have liftoff!"

Later, Walt brought out the ball to start the game. Since there are no kickoffs, after the coin toss, he walked the ball to the 25 yard line, where the first possession starts.

That's great! Glad to see Walt being honored as the "Game Ball Delivery Hero" (the title according to the Michael Waddell, president of the Apollos, on Twitter).

The team also apparently has a mission patch design for the launch game:

An interview of Walt in the 3rd quarter by Melanie Collins (CBS Sideline Reporter).

MC: I'm joined here by Walt Cunningham, the pilot of the Apollo 7 mission. Its so cool to have you here. It has been 50 years since that mission. Do you feel like it was yesterday, or do you feel like its been 50 years?

WC: Well, how I feel is different than how my brain has evolved in the last 50 years.

MC: Fair.

WC: What is really amazing to me, and I'm so glad I was here, is because it is the Apollo team. Now that we're watching the game and they keep talking about "The Apollos", I've had a hard time remembering that its a football team.

MC: Of course! Safe to say you're a fan of the name.

WC: I am fan. I like a lot of things about this team, principally, the thing I see the most is the discipline of following the schedule so close, so you don't have a bunch of goofing around and such.

MC: You are one of the most experienced fighter pilots of our time so you know all about that. Thank you Walter! Back up to the booth.

Nice to see Walt being honored and that he had a good time. Otherwise, the team name is as about as important to me as when Buick had a model named Apollo.

All times are CT (US)
