For All Moonkind to map humanity's lunar heritage sites using blockchain registry

A new partnership is applying blockchain technology to keep track of some valuable bits... of space exploration history.

For All Moonkind, a non-profit dedicated to protecting and preserving the relics of human heritage in outer space, has joined with TODAQ, a blockchain-based financial services marketplace, to map the moon, registering cultural artifacts and locations where humans have landed spacecraft and astronauts to explore the lunar surface.

Roy Balleste, professor of Law and Law Library Director at the St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami Gardens, Florida, and lawyer Michelle Hanlon, co-founder of For All Moonkind, explain how blockchain technology can track humanity's lunar heritage sites in an article for The Space Review.
The first step in thinking about preservation is obtaining a comprehensive and dynamic record of what's on the Moon and, ultimately, other celestial bodies. This is not a simple task.

Derek Webber, a For All Moonkind Leadership Board member and former Vice Chair of the Google Lunar X PRIZE judging panel, recalls using various sources, including NASA, books by Philip Stooke, Roger Launius, Grant Heiken, David Voniam and Bevan French, and various Wikipedia sites to identify sites and objects on the Moon. The need to have a single legitimized source for this information cannot be understated.
