The new suspense thriller "Salvation" premieres Wednesday, July 12 (9 p.m. ET/PT) on CBS.
The series centers on tech superstar Darius Tanz (Santiago Cabrera) and MIT grad student Liam Cole (Charlie Rowe), who bring Pentagon official Grace Barrows (Jennifer Finnigan) a staggering discovery – that an asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth.

These protagonists look way too young to be in charge of such an urgent mission.

Have tried to struggle through series but its just gets worse each episode. Nothing is scientifically correct, and now just going soap opera goofy and of course government conspiracies abound... ughh.

Phil Plait ("The Bad Astronomer") was the science consultant on the series.
Also, Asteroid Day's Mark Boslough and Rusty Schweickart (Apollo 9 astronaut) have been discussing the series: Part 1 | Part 2.

I, too, gave it a shot.
Meh.
The funny thing is that if the 'one season wonder' series, "Defying Gravity" had gone on, the second season would have shown the earth was in horrible shape from climate change and that this is why there is no NASA anymore. Also, there would have been a huge part of the government and other forces against the mission in that case, because "the powers that be" didn't want it to succeed.
This kind of thing was always silly to me, as I don't care what your goals are for wanting power or money, anyone can see you won't have either if civilization is wiped out, even if a few people survived...

Thanks for the links (and that link to the space.com article on the em drive). Enjoyed these more than the series...
