Oh man. Star Wars was one of the primary drivers for my interest in all things space. This is a huge loss. Obviously, we'll all pass eventually, but this is far, far too early. I pray for peace for her family and friends. |

You will be missed in life, but you will live forever in Star Wars.

For someone whose most famous role helped to inspire so many to take up an interest in spaceflight, it surprised me to find that Carrie Fisher did not directly interact with the space program in some way.As best as I can tell, she never attended a launch, toured a space center or even shared a stage with an astronaut. I cannot find references to her likeness as Princess Leia making it into space — no action figure floating in zero-g, no crew member sporting a bun hairdo, or the like. The astronauts aboard the International Space Station have watched the "Star Wars" movies in orbit and there is a crater on Pluto's moon Charon unofficially named for Leia, but neither seems to have been with Fisher's participation. Barring anything else, Fisher's legacy includes influencing a generation of engineers and scientists who are devoting their lives to extending humanity to galaxies far, far away... |

When it comes to those we've lost, 2016 can't end soon enough. |

I agree star51L, 2016 has been horrible as far as celebrity deaths go. Hopefully 2017 will be better. |

News just in that Carrie's mother, actress Debbie Reynolds, has died after suffering a stroke. She was 84. Such a sad day for the family. |

Debbie Reynolds starred as Molly Brown in the 1964 musical, "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" which inspired Gus Grissom to name his Gemini spacecraft "Molly Brown." |
