Episode 34 of "My Favorite Martian," what is widely considered one of the earliest sitcoms with a science fiction premise, aired late in Season One, June 7, 1964. Uncle Martin learns of a wealthy businessman planning a trip to Mars and decides to apply for the astronaut of the mission. From the script:
Founder of the Keck Foundation announced here today the completion of a spacecraft capable of landing on Mars; the first privately financed project of its kind.
This was more than 50 years ago. The dream of non-governmental space travel is nothing new. That may or may not change in the near future.

Cool, Bill Bixby, of "Hulk" and Elvis co-star fame, and Alan Hale, Jr. of "Gilligan's Island" fame. Yet this episode was cut off too short.

All times are CT (US)
