Last night (May 26), the hosting service that includes the collectSPACE web server had a wide-scale issue affecting multiple clients that resulted in this website going offline until this morning. Readers and members trying to access the site during those hours would have received a "404 Not Found" error.Fortunately, in our case the issue preventing our recovery was a misconfiguration, but it was masked in such a way that for the better part of the night, it looked like we suffered a total data loss. (We have backups, which would have been the next step to try to rebuild the site.) I apologize for any confusion, inconvenience or other issues that the outage may have caused you. I am taking additional steps today to ensure that if this happens again, we can recover more quickly. |

By the way, this wasn't the first time that my computer had a problem connecting with cS. A similar "HTTP 404 Error" code came on last week as I was trying to connect to cS.But after a few hours went by, I tried again later in the day, and my computer successfully made contact with the cS website. So was it the same type problem beforehand or something different? |

I was not aware of any outage last week, but will look further into it. |

Do you recall, Robert, when I emailed you a short message last week(+) indicating that I was having trouble connecting to cS. I did email you back a brief message the next day and said it was no longer a problem that had apparently fixed itself. It was also a 404-type error concern. |

Odd. I just went back through your emails (about Space Congress and such) and don't see one mentioning any difficulty connecting. But given that the outage didn't require any action on my part to correct, it may have been a local network problem outside my control. |

Perhaps it was earlier than just a week or two ago, but it wasn't a continued email with older emails of mine/yours all together. I hit the "New email" button at top left and just wrote a couple of lines to you. The next day or so, I did report back to you, and said the problem no longer was an issue. You did email back with something like, "Okay, good to know," or something similar. Doesn't sound familiar, huh? Anyway, all is fine now, so no problems and I did delete those brief two emails of mine to you. |
