In 1963-64, an around the world caravan with 64 Airstream trailers took place. The travelers started on the west coast and ferried to Hong Kong and India. Many countries were explored including Afghanistan, Russia, and many European countries. Following the caravan, the travelers were again ferried to Miami. So what the heck does this have to do with space? Well, I recently purchased one of the Airstreams used. It was owned by Paul and Ruth Ross of California. I am currently restoring the trailer and want to represent Paul Ross accurately. He in fact was a retired "space scientist." Although I have been in contact with his grandchildren, many memories have been lost. It also seems many may have been withheld. I have done some basic searches and the only possibly references I could find were to the Ranger program. This was around 1962. The family only remembers a couple of things. First, he was not a Ph.d., but had 10 working under him. Most of his work was "Top Secret" and never discussed. Finally, one of the only projects brought up was "The Wing." That's all I got. The people on this board always amaze me with their knowledge. Any information or ideas on how I could research this better would be greatly appreciated! |
