Super Bowl 51 will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston on Feb. 5, 2017.
The Houston Host Committee wasted no time launching its "Houston, We Have Kickoff" campaign with the following video and ad, the latter appearing in the Wall Street Journal today.

Just before astronaut Scott Kelly touched down after almost a year on board the International Space Station, he helped kick off a year-long countdown to Super Bowl LI (51).
"The next best place – to space – for a Super Bowl is our hometown of Houston," said Kelly, as he tossed around, or rather floated a football as part of a video recorded for the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee on board the orbiting outpost. The game is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Now back on the ground and retired from NASA, Kelly is set to hand off the space-flown football to the head of the committee at Space Center Houston on Saturday, Aug. 27.

A football flown for five months aboard the International Space Station has now become a symbol of the next Super Bowl to be played in Houston.
Astronaut Scott Kelly, who returned from a record 340-day expedition on the orbiting outpost earlier this year, handed off the flown football at Space Center Houston on Saturday (Aug. 27).
"This really is an out of this world acceptance of a football," said Sallie Sargent, the president and CEO of the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee, during the "Touchdown Tour" opening event.

Football fans attending Super Bowl LI (51) in Houston next year will have a chance to rocket to Mars and free fall like an astronaut, thanks to a partnership between the Host Committee and NASA.
The "Future Flight" experience, unveiled Wednesday (Nov. 16) at the 2016 Space Commerce Conference and Expo (SpaceCom) in Houston, will combine a virtual reality (VR) simulation with a drop tower ride that has been decorated to resemble (at least in color) NASA's new Space Launch System (SLS) heavy-lift rocket.

Johnson Space Center is holding a NASA Social on Feb. 1, in lead up to the Super Bowl. Social media accreditation for the event is now open. The deadline to apply is 12 p.m. (noon) EST on Jan. 9.
Are you passionate about all things space, football and social media? Then don't miss the opportunity to join our NASA Social event at Johnson Space Center in Houston on Feb. 1, the week leading up to Super Bowl LI.
We are inviting 50 social media users to apply for credentials to join us to get a special insider's look at the central hub of human space exploration and to share their experience with the world!
During this behind-the-scenes tour, attendees will visit real-world examples of astronaut training, deep space technologies, our new Orion spacecraft, which will carry humans on a journey to Mars, and current work aboard the International Space Station. NASA has 10 field centers across the country, and the work being done at NASA's center in Houston is a major component in helping expand the frontier of space exploration.

NASA release
Experience NASA at Super Bowl LIVE Fan Festival in Houston
Space exploration will feature prominently at Super Bowl LIVE, a nine-day fan festival running Jan. 28 through Feb. 5 in Houston, site of Super Bowl LI.
Exhibits and activities will showcase NASA and aerospace industry progress on the Journey to Mars, scientific research aboard the International Space Station, the agency's next great space telescope, and examples of how technology drives exploration.
NASA is collaborating with the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee, which is the fan festival organizer, to share NASA's contributions with the Houston community, where the agency's Johnson Space Center is located, and to the nation.
At Future Flight, the primary attraction at the free fan festival, riders will take a trip to Mars and back using virtual reality goggles on a 90-foot drop tower ride. Visitors also will get a chance to see a model of NASA's Orion spacecraft that's used for water recovery training; a replica of the Curiosity rover currently exploring Mars; a rover-like space exploration vehicle concept that could be used for in-space missions or to explore planetary surfaces; space station exhibits; and other interactive space-related content.
Technologies and exhibits developed by several NASA industry partners also will be on display. Visitors to Future Flight can see models of engines manufactured by Aerojet Rocketdyne to power NASA's powerful Space Launch System rocket, an interactive wall provided by Boeing, Lockheed Martin's virtual reality trip over the Mars surface, Orbital ATK's interactive launcher, and Raytheon Company's science museum on wheels.
Northrup Grumman's full-size replica of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, set to launch in 2018 and become the largest and most powerful space telescope ever built, will be on display at the intersection of Austin St. and Clay St., near Future Flight.=

As football fans make their way to Houston for the Super Bowl on Sunday (Feb. 5), NASA is offering a quick way to reach the 50 yard line at the Big Game — by "dropping in" from Mars.
The space agency partnered with the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee to present Future Flight, a VR-enhanced, amusement park drop tower ride that launches guests on a journey to the Red Planet.

It is a familiar scene: mere seconds after the game ends, out come the shirts celebrating the winner of the Super Bowl.
On Sunday (Feb. 5), the same thing is expected to happen at NRG Stadium in Houston. But for the first time in history, it could also occur in space.
That is because the Super Bowl LI winning team's jersey is already on board the International Space Station.

I wonder if the losing jersey will get flushed out the airlock or just burn up on re-entry!

I asked but wasn't able to learn on what spacecraft the jerseys were launched. I believe they may have gone up on Orbital ATK's OA-5 in October, or maybe even as far back as SpaceX's CRS-9 in July 2016, but I don't know.
