Would you say that if had been the flag of the USSR. My personal favourite US photo is of the whole Earth seen from Apollo 17. |

I submitted your suggestions to The Final Arbiter - my wife, without whose approval nothing can go on the wall. From an artistic standpoint, she liked the Apollo 17 Cernan, flag, and Earth photo, because of the composition of the picture and the presence of astronaut, flag, Earth, and Moon. She also likes the Apollo 8 Earthrise because it is a beautiful photo and was so important, both in its time and now. In light of the violence and chaos of the preceding 11-1/2 months of 1968, the Earthrise photo was a stark wake-up call that we are all part of One Planet. Thanks for your ideas and suggestions. |

OT for this thread, but the company that made the Echo satellite skin (G. T. Schjeldahl Co.) also made the Apollo Command Module heat shield protective film.------------------ John Fongheiser President Historic Space Systems, http://www.space1.com |

Jonathan, if you are going to use the earthrise photo, maybe you can have Gen. Anders' quote somewhere, "We came all this way to explore the moon, and the most important thing is that we discovered the Earth." |

Great idea, Andrew! When I'm ready, I'll send the mat and $2500 to Gen. Anders and ask him to write that quote on there himself! |

I would say standing at KSC by the Apollo 1 launch platform abandoned in place with an American flag waving in the sea breeze wind and the moon high in the sky during the tints of sunrise or sunset with a simple bird or group of birds flying into the sky. Somehow the experience of that photo does justice for me to all those who were a part of manned space flight... where we have been, were we are, and what is in store for our future in space! |
