A new non-profit (501c) organization has been formed to help promote space exploration, math and science in our schools and community. After helping out for many years, I have decided with the assistance of others to create One Giant Leap, Inc. to help our educational community learn about space and to pursue STEM subjects in our schools. In past years, astronauts Dick Gordon, Charlie Precourt, Sunita Williams, Brian Duffy, Winston Scott, Gus Loria, Dan Burbank, Heide Stefanyshyn-Piper, Al Sacco, Jay Buckey, Steve Bowen, Joe Acaba, Mike Lopez Alegria, Pam Melroy, Janet Kavandi, George Zamka, Stephanie Wilson, Cady Coleman and Story Musgrave have all have visited New England with some help from me. Over 15,000 children and adults have witnessed astronauts give presentations about their life, missions, training and schooling. Hopefully some of the students were inspired by them to "reach for the stars". Now with the help of others, we hope to inspire and help others. If you need advise on how to bring a guest speaker to your area or if you would like to help us out, please email me at onegiantleap@charter.net. |

First class - you have already achieved a great deal of success with astronaut guests. Long may it continue. |

I am in the planning stages to bring an former shuttle astronaut up to Massachusetts to and host a space night with the theme being to help scouts with merit badge help and with inspiration from an astronaut who was a Eagle scout. It will be at a Boys and Girls club to help them as well. We will be having astronaut, astronomy, robotics, rocketry, aviation, and science presentations and lots of other hand on exhibits. It will held outside of Boston in the Fitchburg area. I am looking for sponsors, donors and help from people all over and in New England especially. If you like to help, let me know. Donations are possibly tax deductible. We are a 501c3. Email me with questions or suggestions that could help me out. |

In conjunction with some schools we were able to bring back up north Astronaut Steve Bowen. Four schools with over 1200 students ranging from Kindergarten to 12th graders had the chance to hear him speak, see awesome video, ask questions and interact with him. Hopefully a few of them were inspired to study hard, be dedicated, be good and will "reach for the stars" in whatever they choose to do. |

We just had some great events and talks with Bob Thirsk. We are now teaming up with the Boys and Girls Club of North Central, Massachusetts to have a family space and aviation day on April 24, 2010. Our special guest will be Massachusetts-born former pilot, commander and former chief astronaut Charlie Precourt. If you live in the area, we hope to see you there. |

Finishing up a busy year which saw Joe Tanner, Bob Thirsk, Charlie Precourt, Heide Stefanyshyn-Piper and one more (to come). Great talks by all and hope they inspired someone to study harder, go into science or math fields or reach for the stars. If you like to make a donation or sponsor an astronaut, please let me know. We could always use help. In fact, the first person to make a donation in the amount of $250 or more to our 501c3 will receive a Buzz Aldrin Fathead. |

Just wanted to let people know we are still in business and have done a few astronaut visits, plus have done some fun community events. This past year or so, astronauts such as Cady Coleman, Bob Thirsk, Joe Tanner, Sandra Magnus, Rick Mastracchio, Lee Morin and Steve Bowen have all ventured up to Massachusetts to speak to over 10,000 students so far. We are in the planning stages for other events and schools for 2012. It should be an eventful year. Even without the shuttle flying, interest is still high for learning about space, science and math. Thank you to all that have helped so far but we could use some more help. We are always looking for donations, sponsorships, items to display such as an ISS model, a replica space helmet and suits (kids love to touch and try on), a cutaway Saturn V and other items that kids like to see and touch. We are a 501c3 so we can accept donations. So I hope people can help us out so that we can reach more kids. Check out our new website: onegiantleap.org. Thanks to all! |

One Giant Leap is planning on hosting some community events this summer and we could use some sponsors and donors to help us out. some plans in the works are a Starfest in July, a Soyuz launch event in July and an Air Force in space event in August. If you would like to help us out, we are a 501c3 and make your contribution a possible tax deduction. Any amount is greatly appreciated. We also like suggestions or leads for other sponsors if you can help that way as well. If you live overseas, we still could use your help. We would make it worth your while if you do help. Any donation or sponsorship of $50 or more will result in a flown bookmark sent to you or something else. These will be fun events open to all ( we try to make it free for our visitors)so we could use some help. Email me offline if you have any questions. Thank you! | |
