Like many of the people who read this message board, I was lucky enough to attend the DC UACC show two weeks ago. While killing some time on the second day, I was thumbing through the astronaut autograph book of one of the dealers and was both shocked and dismayed to find two autographed photos accompanied by a COA from our old friend and "court appointed forensic examiner" Donald Frangipani! One was an Armstrong that was priced at $750, and the other was an Alan Shepard that, in my opinion (and I claim no specific expertise since the only court appointment I have is occasional jury duty) was an autopen at best. I would have expected more from a UACC member dealer at a UACC sponsored event. Call me naive. Isn't it wonderful that we had the opportunity to obtain the autographs of many of the early space heros in person at the show...if we could only convince Armstrong... |

Certainly the promoters had no control over this - as they cant search each and every item. But, the UACC takes dealers offering forgeries or frauds of any type very seriously. Did you bring this to anyones attention at the show? I know some officers of the UACC were present, in fact most if not all. Best, Al |

The UACC is a great organization however I have a problem with them supporting R&R Enterprises because I have seen alot of questionable material up for auction and knowone has done anything about that. The UACC needs to take a stand against companies like Mastronet and RR Enterprises for selling questionable material. Why hasnt this organization done anything yet? They allow them to be members which is why I refuse to join UACC. I have more respect for Mike Frost and IACC/DA because they are real and trustworthy New Yorkers. I think the UACC brings together a nice show but that is about it. Who decides who should be collector of the year? Mike Wierman of NY is the king of autographs and is the best. The New York Times did an article on him recently and he deserves any award out there. I wish everyone the best and have fun collecting because it is a hobby. I remember collecting Superman Comics and Topps baseball Cards. Those were the good old days. How times change. God Bless America. General Lee |

General Lee,R&R Enterprises is a charter member of IACC, so I fail to see the logic in your post. Also, despite what some people may think, the collecting universe does not revolve around New York! Bruce |

Sad but true, R&R Enterprises has a history of selling questionable and fake astronaut autographs. Bob Mc. |

CERTAINLY not defending them - not in the LEAST - but as we discussed in the past Bob, this is what happens when a general autograph dealer sells astronauts sigs and inst knowledgable int he venue. Sometimes its error or ommision and of course, sometimes its fraud as well. Neither is acceptable, if they do not do their homework. Of course there are great general autograph dealers like Al Wittnebert for example. But in regards to R&R and other suspect dealers, its easy to sit back and criticize the UACC or IACC - and its another to take a pro-active role and file complaints. On the astronaut groups we've taken very pro-active stances in fighting these things. Somewhat it happens here on cS as well. Do we catch everyone? Nope. Do we do the best we can do? Yup. Is it effective? Certainly to a degree. But how much MORE effective could it be if we did something rather than criticize. It's not alway up to the organizations to file the complaints. If YOU see something, file one yourself. If R&R is dealing fakes, as a registered UACC dealer if a complaint is filed the Ethics Board will deal with the situation. Cheers! Al |
