Apart from the primary purpose of survival training, was the pairing of two-man crews in desert and jungle survival training sessions in any way used as compatibility tests for future Gemini crews? And is there a list somewhere of the pairings?

I believe it was Michael Collins with Bill Anders and John Glenn with Neil Armstrong in the jungle and Michael Collins with Charles Bassett in the desert, etc.

That's an interesting question, and of course neither of those two pairings turned into a crew, but that would be a wild way to determine compatibility.

You are right, Collins was paired with Anders in the jungle and Bassett in the desert. He never mentioned any suspicion that it had a crew compatibility evaluation factor.
