A little research has revealed at least four astronauts who dozed off while onboard rockets prior to launch on their respective missions, viz...
  • Dec 1958: Army-Navy Bio-Flight No. 1 Old Reliable (Gordo)
  • May 1963: Mercury-Atlas 9 PLT Gordon Cooper (Gordo)
  • Dec 1968: Apollo 8 LMP Bill Anders
  • Dec 1972: Apollo 17 CMP Ron Evans
Here is how Bill Anders described it to the BBC:
Sitting on top of the Saturn V, which was a mini nuclear bomb itself, caught your attention, but eventually I fell asleep briefly.
Does anyone know of any other Apollo-era astronaut(s) who had a nap at the top of their fueled launch stack?

All times are CT (US)
