John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, Wally Schirra and Gordon Cooper all performed manual control functions during their orbital Mercury flights.

But what about Alan Shepard and Gus Grissom? Their flights were just 15 minutes long. Were their flights fully automated or did they perform any manual control functions?

They also performed manual control checks. It's documented well in the mission reports. They are available online. Just google them.

It's funny how easy that is. Never the less, Shepard was the first person to manually control a spacecraft.

All times are CT (US)
