When Apollo 12 finally arrived safely in Earth orbit having been struck twice by lightning during the launch, Houston was rather concerned that the pyros (used for parachute deployment) may have been activated as a result of the lightning and the only way of checking was via visual inspection by the crew.

Were Pete Conrad and Alan Bean asked to visually inspect the command module whilst in the lunar module when undocking from the CM?

During the post-liftoff LM rendezvous, Conrad mentioned that the CM umbilical may have been struck by lightning because it looked brown and burned. They did not have a 70mm camera in the LM to take photos.

The CM/LM umbilical is in my collection, and it does not look affected in the least to me...

I think he was referring to the CM/SM umbilical, not the umbilical cord.

All times are CT (US)
