I always wondered, if Deke Slayton flew the second orbital flight as previously planned, what would the remaining schedule look like as far as crews?
Would there be 7 (Mercury) missions?

I wondered about that also. Schirra would have flown the next flight says a National Geographic story.

In my opinion, it's unlikely they would have flown an extra mission simply to give all seven astronauts a flight. More likely that Schirra and Carpenter would have flown the last two flights and Cooper would have waited until Gemini to fly.
