I was just wondering - when one watches "From the Earth to the Moon" or "Apollo 13," we see astronauts getting sick during the missions of Apollo 8, 9 and 13 - were other Apollo flights or Gemini and Mercury missions for that matter plagued by space sickness? |

Space Adaptation Syndrome (SAS) is related to cabin volume. It did not affect crew members in small, tight cabin space. It only became apparent in Apollo with the ability to move around in the cabin and even more so on the shuttle. |

Thanks for the info - I'll have to keep that in mind in case I ever get the chance to go to space! |

In Gene Cernan's book, he hints that space sickness was more widespread than reported. It was in a paragraph talking about Rusty Schweickart's troubles on Apollo 9, the quote was something like "Sure, you might toss your cookies a bit, but you didn't let it get you down, like some nugget." I'm paraphrasing there. Cernan also noted that 'Rusty paid the price for us all" by being public about his sickness, which also hints that it occurred on other flights. There are no specifics though. | |
