Late 1968-early 1969,missions previewed after Apollo 20 moon landing.Timeline 1972-1979.AAP-1:manned lunar orbiter performs detailed mapping photography and geochemical remote sensing. AAP-2:sees two astronauts landing an extended lunar module (ELM)with two lunar flyng units (LFU) near central peaks of 50-mile-wide copernicus crater. The surface stay lasts 72 hours, and four LFU flights, two of which reach the summits of the Copernicus peaks. AAP-3 :Davy Rille, similar at AAP-2. AAP-4:Copernicus rim, similar at AAP-2 and AAP-3. AAP-5 & AAP-5b:seems two astronauts landing a ELM with two LFUs in the Marius hills near a pre landed lunar module truck with an LSSM (lunar scientific survey module),a rover with ranges of 50 km.This expedition requires two saturn V launches, one for piloted Apollo CM and unmanned LM truck (AAP-5b mission),and one for piloted Apollo CM and piloted ELM.After the crews departs, the LSSM sets out unmanned to Aristarchus crater, collecting samples along the way.AAP-6:Cobra head, near Aristarchus. The astronauts retrive samples collected by the LSSM arrived from the Marius Hills. They also performed five LSU sorties. AAP-7:manned lunar orbiter, similar at AAP-1 but more advanced.AAP-8 & AAP-8b:A week stay at Alphouns crater,a lunar payload module (LMP)advanced LM-based cargo lander.this expedition requires two saturn V launch (AAP-8b with piloted Apollo CM and unmanned LMP).After the astronauts leave their LSSM rover set out across the lunar highlands toward Sabine and Ritters craters. AAP-9 :Sabine and Ritters.similar at AAP-6 the astronauts pick up samples collected by AAP-8 LSSM.End of Apollo program. The lunar flights will continue in 80s with lunar space's tugs and moon base. P.S. All this and after... Cernan was the last man in the moon with Apollo 17 !![This message has been edited by carmelo (edited July 02, 2004).] |
