Curious to know if anyone has seen an Apollo flown Beta cloth display or presentation like this? It doesn't look great to me.

As the seller, I can at least provide some background and would gladly welcome others feedback (positive or negative for that matter).

Purchased at an in-person estate sale 15 years ago in Houston from the family of the original owner. They shared a story that 10 of these were made (each with a somewhat different grouping of missions apparently). The one for sale was their grandfather's as a thank you for his work on the Apollo program. This is what I got from the grand-daughter at the time since the original owner had passed, hence the sale. It was originally matted/framed with a plaque but that had been removed due to water damage and laminated to preserve the main part of it (not by me, this was already the state it was in when I purchased it).

I'd certainly classify it as more of a homemade style presentation made by his group at the close of the Apollo program instead of something that was formally presented by NASA.

While I haven't seen this type of presentation before, I've seen similar presentations made back then and I always tell people that there is a good chance these things are actually flown, just by gut feeling.

Remember in those days nobody thought of a financial value and lots of flown items were just handed over to numerous people "hey, this flew to the moon, I'm sure you like it as souvenir."

All the certification issues started in the late 90s, before nobody really cared for proper documentation for almost 20-30 years after Apollo ended.

Beta cloth with the mission emblems are normally produced for the spacesuit use. ILC who manufactured the Apollo suit are ones who used this. With the space collectibles today, watch out what you are buying!

Thanks for the feedback.

I initially thought the same thing back when I acquired it and wasn't sure. Over the years since, I've seen that these patches were carried in some quantity in the Command Module.

Looking through the Heritage Auction archives, here are a few examples of past sales, one from Apollo 16, and another from Apollo 14.

All times are CT (US)
