This is why astronauts stopped signing, as I see some one is selling 19 (!) signed photos of Jerry Carr. You sell something you have in spare and buy something you otherwise cannot have, but this is the example of someone who makes what we collect, in the future, impossible. |

I have an acquaintance (from Space Camp, no less), who bragged about buying up a bunch of STS-107 patches immediately after the accident and selling them on eBay for a tidy profit. I lost all respect I had for them at that moment. |

He has a lot of Bart Starr autographs, too. His kids must be Packer fans! |

So the seller deceives the astronaut into signing multiple items, probably using different return addresses and, of course, names over a period of months or years building an impressive collection of personalised autographs. Then waits years, possibly decades for the astronaut to pass away so he can try to flog his autograph less than a week from his death. That’s quite a plan. What a loser. |

Jerry Carr was a regular on the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex's "astronaut of the day" schedule, making many appearances over the years, along with Ed Gibson and Bill Pogue. One person could get multiple items signed on one trip. I have over the years collected many of my in-person signed items that way and there was never a fee, it was part of the astronaut-of-the-day experience. Back in the days when Bill Pogue was alive, you could get a Skylab full crew signed item within a few weeks, as they rotated the Skylab 3/4 crews in very close succession. It is possible that all of these items could have been obtained in one trip to the space center, but selling any item right after the death of a famous person will always be in bad taste. |

The seller also used all common names making them more desirable to buyers. Mike, Micheal, John, Joe, Dave... |
