Brief background: Bought the item pictured below for (cheap) at a garage sale while in Texas for work recently. While the item *appears* similar to a Apollo 15 Robbins, I have neither owned nor seen a real Robbins in person.

My assumption is that this is merely a lookalike/knockoff, as opposed to a "real" Robbins with any real value. However, any advice/insight from the cS community would be greatly appreciated — for example, could this perhaps be a prototype of some sort?

Looks like bronze. Believe it is a test strike for the flown Apollo Robbins. Even spelled Hadley Appinnines wrong like the flown ones. Only one p in Apinnines.

I have seen a similar bronze Apollo 17 Robbins that had engraved dates.

Thanks! A test strike/prototype does seem plausible and (if true) would be a neat item.

Does it have a serial number on the rim?

No, or at least not one that is readily apparent that I can make out at this time. Owing to my ignorance on the subject, and desire to not cause damage, I have been hesitant to attempt any real cleaning efforts on my own.

Again, any advice would be much appreciated, and thanks to those who have chimed in/e-mailed so far.

This article on conserving vs. cleaning has helped me in the past when it comes to understanding and then deciding what to do with a coin or medallion.
